Our ISY Community

We are thinking of our ISY alumni during this global pandemic. We hope you are all doing well and are safe. This is the second ISY alumni newsletter following our start in January.

We hope you enjoy reading about our move to virtual learning at ISY and feel inspired to contribute to our special requests for retiring staff and the graduating class of 2020.

Help us celebrate Daw Winsome’s retirement!

After 29 years at ISY, Daw Winsome will retire this year. She is this year’s recipient of the Community Service Award, a timely recognition of her commitment to community service and service learning over her career at ISY.

Year after year, she has been instrumental in organizing fundraising efforts for charitable purposes and community service initiatives including the flood drive with the  Ayeyarwady Foundation, Community Service Fridays, and the well-known and loved Family Fun Fair put on by the High School Student Council.

Submit a Video!

Daw Winsome is also one of the main links with our Alumni Community.

This is where we turn to you, the alumni of ISY. Well it’s not possible to gather everyone together right now to celebrate, we are hoping to do the next best thing. We are asking alumni to send in a video sharing well wishes for her retirement and share a memory and/or the impact she had on your life. We will then make a video to be shared with her following the end of the school year this June.

We ask that clips be 30 seconds to 2 minutes and be recorded with landscape format if possible. Please send them to the communications@isyedu.org by Friday, May 29. Thank you!

ISY moves to Virtual Learning

On March 18th ISY moved to virtual learning for all our students. Students and teachers alike have been quick and adaptive to transition to teaching and learning online.

Each Wednesday, students do activities that focus on compassion, creativity and critical thinking to help stay connected to our ISY Learner Attributes and mission and vision.

On the first Virtual Wednesday, students celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day with a series of learning experiences around environmental awareness and what we can all do to make a difference. See a few photos of our elementary eco-warriors below!

Congratulations Class of 2020!

Graduation is going to look a little different this year! There will still be a virtual commecment for seniors later this month.

To help celebrate them and we are asking alumni to share your own senior photo or a photo from your ISY graduation! Please send these photos to communications@isyedu.org by Friday, May 29. These will be shared with the graduating class and on the ISY Alumni Association Facebook Page.

Urban Beekeeping at ISY

Did you know ISY has 3 beehives on campus? They are located behind the D-Building near the compost area and are taken care of by a new service learning club, Urban Beekeeping!

Thanks to an ISY alum Calvin, his company Haven Honey brought the hives to campus and matched the funds of the service learning grant that was awarded to the group by the ISY Parent Association. He met with students in the club earlier this year to share his knowledge and expertise.

Thank you Calvin! We are very excited to continue this partnership and see how the bees do on campus!

ISY Campus Remains Closed

In light of the Covid-19 global pandemic, The ISY campus will remain closed through the end of the school year, June 10th. This includes the gym and campus facility. At this time ISY is planning to open in August for the 20-21 school year. We will be in touch with our alumni community to let you know when it is safe to have you on campus again and use the facilities.
