Dear Chinthes,

It is going to be a busy weekend and week ahead for our ISY students. We have the second week of after school activities (ASA) this week. This week will be the last week that a student can move activities. Please read below for more information about ASAs.
Our Middle School football players have started their season with a win. Please continue to read this blog for more information about the middle school football team and their next games.
The big sporting news of the week is our high school athletes that have traveled to Bangkok for the Southeast Asian Sports and Activities Conference SEASAC tournaments. Although we are only in our first day of competition, read below for all the information about these tournaments.

After School Activities: ASA

This week we successfully launched our second semester of after school activities (ASA). It was great to see our ISY students engaging in new and returning activities. Some new offerings were STEM, dealing with robotics and coding, and introduction to SCUBA diving.
All fees for ASAs are due at the business office today.
This week will be the last week of moving or joining ASAs. Please make sure that if you want to move your child from an ASA it must be done this week. Thank you.

Middle School (MS) Athletics

Unfortunately ISY was unable to field a girls team for the first game of the season. However this should not take away from the performance that our boys put in. They have obviously been working hard in training because they looked good on the pitch and performed like a team. They were playing Yangon International School (YIS). YIS worked hard for the first quarter to keep the scores level at 0-0. However, our boys started to show their class. They scored 4 great goals to take control of the game and secure their first win of the season. Their next game will be at YIS on the 7th of February and the then at International School Myanmar on the 10th.

High School (HS) Athletics

On Thursday morning our ISY high school athletes started their travel to the airport and on to Bangkok for the second season of Southeast Asian Sports and Activities Conference SEASAC tournaments. Things did not start well with the fog on Thursday morning delaying our flight by 3 hours! However, we did eventually land safe and well in Bangkok and all the teams made it to their respective hotels safe and well.
The teams that are traveling are, boys tennis, girls touch rugby and girls and boys basketball. All the athletes were excited and a little nervous about the weekend ahead.
Results are still coming in to me at the time of writing but I am happy to report that the boys basketball team have won their first two games. Our girls basketball team has succumbed to two tough losses in their first two games. I am pleased to report that they have played better as the day has gone on.
The girls touch rugby lost their first game, but scored a try to lift spirits. This is a team that will go from strength to strength this tournament.
There have been no reports from the tennis courts yet.
On the 7th of February our basketball players will play International School Myanmar at ISY.
Next weekend there will be no rest for our basketball players. There is a city wide basketball tournament. This is an invitational tournament that all the international schools of Yangon have been invited to.

Tennis Court

The tennis court is located at the top of the West side of the SAS building. This facility is for all ISY community members to use. To use this facility you will need to make a booking using the ISY Facilities booking form. The tennis court will be available all day Saturday and Sunday and after 2:30PM on school days.
