Dear Chinthes,

It has been another big week for ISY athletics! ISY has been represented in football and volleyball over the previous week. Our high school volleyball teams traveled to Singapore and represented ISY in the end of seasonSEASAC tournament. Also, our high school football teams have started their Yangon Athletic Conference (YAC) season. Finally, the middle school volleyball teams continued their YAC seasons. Please continue reading for more information on all these sports.

There have been other Chinthes excelling in athletics recently.Let Ya (Class of 2027) competed in an international golf tournament in Bangkok, Thailand. Ethan (Class of 2030) has been selected and is training in the Myanmar national Optimist sailing team. It is great to see our ISY students excelling in different fields and demonstrating the qualities that make an ISY student.

Middle School (MS) Athletics

Last week was a quiet week for our middle school volleyball players, however, on Wednesday this week ISY hosted the Yangon International School MS volleyball teams. Our girls and boys teams again showed their abilities and comfortably won both these matches. The volleyball teams have another week off and then they will play International School Myanmar (ISM) at ISM on the 23rd of November.

High School Athletics

The high school football teams were in action again this week. On Tuesday ISY hosted ILBC International School. The girls football team put on a fantastic performance to draw 1-1. This game could have easily been a win for ISY if it weren’t for a debatable penalty awarded to ILBC in the first half. From this point the girls could have dropped their heads, however, they fought back to dominate the second half with possession and territory. Finally scoring a well crafted goal to tie up the scores. With time to go ISY continued with their attack with multiple corners won, but ILBC were able to keep the ball out of the goal. This was one of the most exciting matches I have seen in a while.
The boys played to a similar tune as the girls. There may have been some nerves in the boys team, but for whatever reason, ISY let in two opportunistic goals to be losing 0-2 early on. However, the boys settled and started to show their skill and composure and by half time were controlling the match. The boys ended up convincing winners.
Today and tomorrow our footballers are in action in the Yangon City Wide Tournament hosted by YIS and held at the South Dagon fields.
The next Yangon Athletic Conference matches for our high school football teams will be a double header on the 14th versus ILBC at ILBC and the 15th against YIS at YIS.

ISY Friendship Swim Meet

Today, ISY hosts the ISY Friendship Swim Meet. This will be a chance for our swimmers to compete against other swimmers from different schools. Supporters are most welcome to come and cheer on our swimming Chinthes.
The meet will start at 4:00 with warm-ups at 3:30. The meet will conclude at 7:15 with the presentation of the Friendship Cup.

Southeast Asian Sports and Activities Conference (SEASAC) News

ISY are SEASAC champions!
It is with great pleasure that I announce the ISY high school girls and boys volleyball teams are the SEASAC champions. Both these teams won their respective competitions over the weekend.
The teams traveled to Singapore on Thursday and competed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. By all reports the teams represented ISY with the pride and respect that we expect of our student athletes.
Although there were many excellent individual performances, volleyball is a team sport and it was ISY’s teamwork that won us the championships in the end.

Let Ya (Class of 2027)

Let Ya, a grade 8 student at ISY, has just completed competing in the International Youth Golf Tournament the Singha Thailand Junior World Golf Championship 2022. Junior golfers from 18 countries participated in the tournament including Guam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, USA, Mauritius. Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Nepal, France and Thailand. The competition was a strokeplay and cross-score competition divided into 4 age groups, men-women. Let Ya competed in the Class B (13 and 14 year olds). This is her first overseas tournament representing Myanmar.

Ethan (Class of 2030)

Ethan started sailing at Yangon Sailing Club back in October 2021. Ethan competed in YSC Combined Fleet Championship 2022 in September, which was also the pre-selection trial for the National team. For the National team, MYF (Myanmar Yachting Federation) only chooses top 12 optimist sailors (the Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by young people up to the age of 15). During the Championship Ethan ranked 7th place and got into the National team and he is the youngest sailor among the top 12. The team is now training for the Southeast Asian Games that will be held in Cambodia in May 2023. Ethan still needs to go through a final selection trial in which only top 5 sailors will be chosen. Only one sailor among the 12 sailors will be sent to the SEA Games. Ethan is currently attending sailing camps and when he is in Yangon is training at the Yangon Sailing Club.
We wish Ethan all the very best in his training and the final selection trial.

Cyrus (Class of 2024)

Recently Cyrus, in the 11th grade, played the Singapore Amateur Champianship and following this he qualified to play in the Myanmar Golf Tour as an amateur. This is a great feat considering his young age.

Cyrus started playing golf when he was about 7 years old. His first tournament was at YCDC golf course and he was 9 years old and became a member of JGM (Junior Golf Myanmar). He played many junior tournaments since then not only in Myanmar but also in Thailand, Malaysia, America and Australia.

His qualification at the Singapore Amatuer Champianship for the Myanmar Golf Tour is just the latest of a long line of golfing success. We wish him the best for the rest of his bright golfing future.
