Elementary Update – January 31st, 2020

Sandy Sheppard, Elementary School Principal

Dear all,

We have had a wonderful week at ISY. Thank you to all those involved in the wonderful Chinese New Year celebration on Thursday. Special thanks to Miss Kalu and the parents involved in the event. We have so many reasons to celebrate learning here at ISY. This blog always showcases some of the celebrations, but certainly does not represent all the amazing things happening every day.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sandy Sheppard

Happy Chinese New Year 2020

Students not accompanied by an adult should wait on the teak steps after their after school activities are finished. Students who have a later activity should wait in the Library.

After 4pm all calls to the elementary office are diverted to the security office.

See pictures below of our creative early years students taking part in fun creative activities

Grade 5 led a great assembly this week. There were presentations from 3M, KGF and  2S

Sabrina from 5O also made a presentation from the recycling club.

31st – Movie Night – 6:00 PM – organized by the Elementary Student Council

7th February – Reports go home

9th – 19th February – MAP testing

12th February – No school

15th February – International Day

Elementary Student Council will host a Movie Night tonight.  All families and friends are welcome to join our showing of “Abominable.”  The show begins at 6:00 PM.  Attendance is free but snacks will be sold for fundraising purposes.  We hope to see you there!

We had Grade 5 learning about shadows, Grade 3 learning about trade, Grade 5V doing water presentations and a whole lot of fun in the playground with our new loose parts. These new loose parts are allowing students to construct their own obstacle courses.

International day takes place on the 15th of February. Each country has a country coordinator that will be sharing information.

There will be a cultural show on the day with performances by students.  Each act should be no longer than 3 minutes in length and ideally be a group piece involving several students.  To participate in the cultural show, please sign-up here by Friday, January 24.

There are a limited number of spaces and signing up does not automatically mean your child will be performing. You will get an email notice after January 24 if the act has been approved.

There is a mandatory dress rehearsal the day before the cultural show, Fri, Feb 14 for all participating groups. It will be after school.

There will also be a Parade of Nations where students will walk with their flags.

A huge thank you for all the parents and students who participated in the UWS after school activity book sale which was held on Thursday 23rd January. We are very pleased to report that 700.000kyat was raised! This money will go towards expanding the Wan Kaung School library and other curriculum projects.
Thank you from the students of the UWS Elementary After School Activity, Judy Fincham and Adam Batty
