Culture & Diversity
International Week
Posted by the ISY Communications Team
Normally, around this time of the year ISY hosts the annual International Day celebration including a parade of nations, food from around the world and a cultural show put on by our students.  Sadly, due to Covid restrictions, we have not been able to hold the event this year but that has not deterred us from celebrating our culture and diversity.  In fact, the whole school have been engaged in activities to investigate, collaborate and communicate ideas on cultural themes.
Secondary School Activities

Ahead of this week, ISY reached out to another of other international schools and ended up collaborating with 4 other international schools throughout the week.  These were the Canadian American School of Manilla, Canadian International School of Thailand, Islamabad International School and Lahore American School of Islamabad.

The week started with a workshop put together by an alumni of ISY, Arden Reynolds.  Arden graduated in 2018 and has now set up an organization called the Youth Social Change Fellowship.  She runs a number of discussion courses for all grade levels on how to effect social change.  She can be found on instagram here: @yscfellowship

The week also included an inspirational key note talk from Brendan Madden called ‘Getting out of your comfort zone.’  This second part focused of 5 of ISY’s learning attributes, Compassion, Collaboration, Communication, Courage and Creativity.  See below a few screen shots from zoom meetings from the Secondary School (click on an image for a larger view).

Elementary School Activities

Not to be outdone, the Elementary School also engaged with a number of cultural activities this week culminating in a celebration of their own cultures by wearing traditional clothes from those cultures.
