Secondary Principal’s Blog

August 14, 2020, Welcome back!

Christina Powers, Secondary School Principal

Dear Parents,

We are excited to welcome you back to school. The last few months have reinforced how much we appreciate our ISY community and our students.

We will begin the school year with three learning programs. Chinthe Online Learning, Synchronous Learning, and Classroom Learning. Those of you who will be participating in synchronized or Chinthe learning will receive an email from our Director of Technology explaining how you can get connected.

Those of you who will be attending classes in person will find the following information important as you begin to plan for the start of the school year. Those students who will be learning in person will be emailed on Monday with the list of classes they are enrolled in for the 2020-2021 school year, along with the location of their rooms. Students are to report to their HR class on Wednesday when they arrive at school. Their physical schedule will be explained by the classroom teacher during the first week of school. If students have concerns with the courses they are enrolled in, please communicate with their school counselor.

  • Secondary students will attend school Monday through Friday. Classes begin on August 19, 2020.
  • Classes start at 8:15. If students arrive early, their classrooms will be open for them to enter and begin the day starting from 7:30 AM.
Students will enter through the front gate of the school.
  • If students have books from last year to return, please bring them to school on Monday. We will collect them in their first-period class. Students should keep their band instruments until further notice.
  • Behavior guidelines that are listed in this link. Students will be reminded that in order to stay together, we will need to stay apart.
  • On Wednesday, students will have the chance to meet with all of their teachers and to better understand their class schedule. Time has been set aside to answer questions and discuss any new protocols that have been put in place.
  • The traditional school schedule will begin on Thursday. On Wednesday, students should bring to school their computers, notepad, and water bottle. PE uniforms will not be needed on the first day of school.
  • Students should arrive at school with a mask. If you do not have one, one can be provided.

As we begin to prepare for the start of school it is important to remain flexible and adaptable as circumstances change. It is our goal to begin in a restrictive manner and as time passes to be able to move to a more relaxed approach all while keeping student safety at the forefront of what we do.

We look forward to having a great start to the school year.
