Secondary Principal’s Blog

December 10, 2021, Update

Christina Powers, Secondary School Principal

This last week prior to the school holiday will be a time where topics, projects, and exams occur in many classes. Please help ensure that your children attend classes throughout the week so that they can rest and enjoy their holiday. If you have questions about your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher for guidance.

In light of recent events combined with the continued emotional and learning challenges many face because of online learning and social isolation, the ISY high school counselor is offering students and families a range of supports.
  • Mr. A-G is available for individual appointments.  These are times for students to talk about their thoughts and feelings in a confidential setting.  Email him to set up an appointment – sscounselor@isyedu.org.
  • Mr. A-G will offer drop-in times next week (see below) for any student who wants to “drop in” and talk about anything they want.
Tuesday, December 14th from 12:30 to 2 pm

Thursday, December 16h from 12:30 to 2 pm

Resources
  • Taking care of your mental health in the face of uncertainty
  • Mindful breathing can be used to control physiological and psychological responses to stress. Through repetitive practice and training, anyone can learn to gain control of their heart rate, emotions, concentration and other responses during stressful situations.  One of the best apps out there to help with this is Tactical Breather.

ISY’s Service Learning Group “Pay It Forward”
is offering Homework Help for
those who are interested.
From a survey that we sent out a few weeks ago,
there were many students who indicated an interest in joining Homework Breakout Rooms after school.
Last week we had a great turnout.
Come join this group for support and guidance.
