March 13, 2020, Update

Christina Powers, Secondary School Principal

This week, ISY celebrated My Freedom Day which is acknowledged worldwide on March 11, 2020. Our grade 9 students, after researching and understanding how Modern slavery impacts us today, shared their knowledge with others. It was a powerful opportunity with students teaching students.

Mock Exams for Year 12 continue through Thursday of next week.  It is a stressful time for our IB students but their hard work and study habits will pay off. Please encourage your child to eat well and get sleep prior to their exams.

AAPPL testing will start on Monday. The testing will take place during students  language B class time. This test assesses the level of language proficiency on the ACFTL scale and gives us invaluable data we look into for further progression of the language acquisition. The test is comprised of 4 components: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Students will need to bring the items listed below to class next week as he/she will need to listen to audio recordings and will need to record their own voice.

Since we will record in our classrooms, it is best to use headphones that include a microphone that can be held near your mouth, for better clarity. Please see the picture above for an example. If you do not have access to headphones with a microphone we will attempt to locate a set that will work with your computer.

SEASAC Teams Party at the  American Club Friday, March 13, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00pm. In order to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work and effort of all our teams and groups that had their culminating event canceled, we will be hosting a team party.
