Athletics & Activities Blog – September 25
When Can We Play Soccer Again?
Insert your favorite sport into the title, but this is a question I get asked on a weekly basis. What this question tells me is that our students have not lost hope. They have not given up and stopped asking the question, which means they are still thinking about the next sports season. To be honest, I am too. This is a great sign. It means we know at some point we will get the answer we want. Gyms/sports fields will reopen, coaches will start calling for 6am practices (will we ever complain again about “having” to go to practice at 6am?), and referees will be hired for competitions.
In the meantime, consider signing up for the Treadmill Challenge, ES basketball drills and skills, Zumba, rope skipping, dryland training, or strength training ASAs. There are still spaces available in many of our movement-related ASAs, which – by the way – start Monday. To get added to one of these please contact me directly at lisom@isyedu.org.
Virtual ASAs Begin Monday
The first round of virtual ASAs will begin on Monday, September 28. Families had the opportunity to register this week for almost 50 offerings. Due to the online format, most waitlisted activities were able to be expanded, meaning that more students than ever got into their first or second choices.
Parents and students will receive email confirmations, including a Zoom link to each activity, on Friday, September 25. Confirmations and links are also available in the PowerSchool Parent Portal as well as in each child’s PowerSchool account.
If you have questions about your child’s activities, please feel free to reach out to me directly at lisom@isyedu.org.
Cross Country Treadmill Challenge
In light of the recent tournament cancellations, SEASAC has put together a series of challenges for those schools who have students on campus but are unable to travel. Since we are not permitted on campus currently, there is one challenge that is available to us…
The Treadmill Race!
Set your treadmill at 2%, run as hard as you can for 3KM, then record your time and see where you stack up against other SEASAC runners. The “race” must be video recorded by your coach (or in this case, another trustworthy adult).
Coach Caitlin Tegenfeldt and Coach Jono O’Sullivan are ready to start training with the team (virtually) so we can see where ISY stacks up. MS and HS runners are welcome to join.
We can record results up until November 6th. You can try as many times as you like.
You will need access to a treadmill in order to race, but not to practice. (There is no pressure to actually compete.)
If your child is interested in participating, please fill out the following form:
