Mission

The International School Yangon is a community of compassionate global citizens.

Vision

We aim to develop lifelong learners who will be a force for positive change in the world.

Dear Parents,

I wish you all a very happy Thadingyut holiday.

Check out the examples below from the art project between our art teacher, Ms. Samia, and Grade 1. The PreK and Kindergarten teachers and students also are collaborating with Ms. Samia on a self-portrait project. They will all be going on display soon. We had a great assembly today. We had a special presentation on Thadingyut given by Lin Nadi and Nway Ei from Grade 5, along with our Teaching Assistants Me Me, Swe Zin and May Zin. The Kindergarten class also presented a special song. See the photos below.

THIS WEEK IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Break time fun and sharing, the choir singing and PreK sharing a book in the Library.

Wonderful Art

Here is some wonderful Grade 5 art, from their work in art class.

TURNSTILES

The students will be receiving their Identification bracelets after the break. They will need to have these every day so that they can enter through the school’s turnstiles.

The turnstiles will be activated again on October 24th.

LEAVING SCHOOL

Elementary students cannot leave the school grounds on their own. If you wish your child to leave, this should be shared with ISY security.

PARENT ASSOCIATION (PA) NOTICES

Many thanks to all the parents getting involved in the Parent Association.  The PA are already busy with plans for Thadingyut, Halloween, and International Day.  Here’s a poster they made with some details about International Day.  If you are organizing a country booth, please can you fill out this PA form.

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Keeping Student Safe: ISY’s Child Protection Policy

ISY has a robust child protection policy that seeks to ensure student safety on several levels. Each of these levels provides protection from those that seek harm from a differing perspective, thus creating a thicker layer of protection for all students.

The first layer of protection involves training of all ISY staff and volunteers. Yearly, all staff receive training regarding child protection issues and their mandate to report. Further, all staff pledge to uphold the code of conduct.

The second layer involves advertising and recruitment. Clearly marking our school’s website and other publications as a school that protects students is a major deterrent. All candidates to be employed at ISY undergo a thorough check and are asked specific questions to safeguard students.

The third layer involves the students directly. The counselors teach a safeguarding curriculum that seeks to educate and empower students. This curriculum includes a variety of topics, such as but not limited to, assertiveness, identifying abuse. anti-bullying and digital citizenship.

If you have any questions regarding ISY’s efforts to support and protect students, please feel free to contact Ms. Patty at escounselor@isyedu.org

Sustainable Goals Book Club

On Thursday, we read the book ‘Luna and Me by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw

This is a true story of a girl who lived in a tree to save a forest. We loved the book; the words were pretty, and the pictures were great. The book was very calming, and it sent a very good message that we can make a difference. We think the book would be great for students at ISY, especially those who love nature and stories with strong girl characters. We loved Butterfly, the girl in the story, and how she felt about Luna, the tree in the story. We were amazed that she actually lived in the tree. The story has a very important message.
