Upcoming Athletics
Elementary School Touch Rugby
Saturday 1st, April: Kids touch rugby tournament @ British School Yangon
High School Touch Rugby
Saturday 1st, April: Youth touch rugby tournament @ British School Yangon
Elementary School Athletics
Tomorrow, a team of elementary school students will be playing in their first touch rugby tournament. Touch rugby is an exciting, fast paced sport that is growing in Yangon and at ISY. Our secondary school will also have two teams in the youth division of the tournament.
Touch rugby is a SEASAC sport and ISY has entered teams in the SEASAC tournaments for many years now. It is great to see that depth in the sport is starting to grow with our elementary and secondary school teams.
Good luck on Saturday!
Middle School Athletics
Last week, on Thursday and Friday, our boys middle school football team participated in their end of season tournament. The boys started out with two good wins on Thursday which set up an effective “final” with the ILBC International School. This would be an interesting match because both teams have scored wins over the other during the season.
I believe that sport is the best drama and this match would prove that. ISY had the run of possession and produced many chances. These were missed, saved or bounced off the crossbar, and on any other night they might have all gone in, however, ISY were only able to convert one of their chances. ILBC on the other hand had three chances and were able to convert all of them. The match would end with ISY losing 1-3.
Our boys can hold their heads high and be proud of their efforts and their season.
Well done boys!
High School Athletics
Basketball
On Friday night the finals of the Yangon Athletic Conference girls and boys basketball league were held at ISY. After a close loss to eventual winners, International School Myanmar (ISM), our girls were playing off for 3rd and 4th place. After a good win over ILBC International School, our boys were playing for the championship title.
Our girls made their customary slow start to the match, however, this would be short lived as our ISY girls started to share the scoring and quickly leveled the scores. The girls would then lead for the rest of the game and run out comfortable winners. This was also a chance to celebrate our grade 12 athletes and it was great that they were able to finish the match on court with each other. ISY girls won 3rd place.
Our boys came into this game unbeaten in the YAC league so far and wanted to finish the season in style. They would be playing ISM boys. Although ISM put a lot of effort into this match they were outclassed by our ISY boys. ISY boys were also able to run out comfortable winners and win the championship.
Well done to our girls and boys basketball players!
Touch Rugby
This Saturday ISY will enter two mixed gender touch rugby teams into a local tournament held at the British School Yangon. This will be a first for ISY. Although ISY has entered a girls touch rugby team into the SEASAC tournament for a number of years now, this will be the first time we have mixed teams. With another elementary school team entered in the kids section this means ISY has three touch rugby teams entered this weekend.
Good luck to all out touch rugby athletes.
Badminton
On the back of our recent SEASAC success ISY will have a girls and boys team competing in the Yangon City Wide Badminton Tournament this week. The tournament started on Thursday afternoon and will finish today, Friday afternoon. Badminton is a traditionally strong sport at ISY so it will be a good test for our athletes who will be playing against many different athletes from around Yangon.
The best of luck to our team.

Next week will be the last week of after school activities for this session and the school year. The last day will be the 7th of April.
