A Bright Future

March 31, 2023

At ISY, we do all we can to prepare our students for bright futures as compassionate global citizens, lifelong learners, and agents for positive change. And judging by how ISY delegates contributed to last weekend’s Yangon Model United Nations (YMUN) conference, our students have very bright futures.

In taking the perspective of cultures and countries very different from their own on very complex global issues, our ISY delegates were both passionate and compassionate in the way they worked with other delegates to address those issues.

Whether they choose to become diplomats or not, I have no doubt that our YMUN students are already committed to being agents for positive change in whatever they do. And all of our futures are brighter for it.

Thingyan Celebration – Friday, April 7

On April 7 we will celebrate Thingyan at ISY. The celebration will begin with an assembly where we will all learn more about this special festival. Following this, the students will take part in water fun outside. They will be in their normal clothing and they should bring a towel on that day. They will be going home wet! This is always such a fun event that we all look forward to celebrating it together.

Special thanks to the Parent Association, who are sponsoring and organizing the event. They will also be supplying some traditional treats during lunch breaks.

Containers for the water fun will be supplied by the school. They should not bring their own. Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 will have their own event earlier in the day.

Check out the new posts on the Secondary School Art Facebook page.
Grade 9 students have made installation models to convey their ideas about some of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. They learned how art can be used to influence and promote action and how other artists have used art to highlight different causes. We are delighted with the final pieces!
We are also very proud of our Grade 12 IB Diploma Visual Artists who will exhibiting their work on Thursday evening, 5-7pm, in the High School Art Studio

Technology Integration at ISY

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence language model that is designed to respond to users prompts and questions in a human-like conversational manner. This means that instead of just providing links to where you might be able to find information to answer a question as a search engine like Google does, ChatGPT can answer a question in human-like language in a variety of ways as requested by the user.

ChatGPT is a very powerful tool and, as with any powerful tool, students and teachers must use it with care and for the right purpose. How and why we might use ChatGPT is something schools around the world have been thinking about a lot lately. At ISY we have been thinking about this in terms of our future focused Vision for our students.

Click here for a summary of ISY’s approach to the integration of new technology into the learning process. While this was developed as we considered the role of ChatGPT in our classrooms, this approach can be applied to any technology. We have used the acronym LEARN to organize our thinking:
