Dear all,
We have had another busy week at ISY. The visit from the Poets has been a highlight of the week.
The next event is the Holiday Bazaar on the 6th of December. This event for parents includes opportunities for parents to purchase holiday items made by our students, as well as to buy from a few outside vendors. There will also be short performances from our elementary school students. We hope to see you all there. If you have not already done so, there will be an opportunity at the Bazaar to sign up for SeeSaw. SeeSaw is our class communication app; see more information below. Come join us for some holiday season fun.

HOLIDAY BAZAAR
Next week on the 6th of December will be our annual Holiday Bazaar. This year the event is bigger than ever before. Please come along between 12:30 and 3:00 PM on the 6th of December. At the event, you can buy items from outside vendors, student-made items, popcorn, books, clothing, and games sale. All the money from the student tables goes towards the Chinthe Fund.
There will also be performances from the Elementary School Students. Come join us in the holiday fun; we hope to see you there.

FOR WEDNESDAY
Students are invited to wear colorful festive clothing on Wednesday, for our special festive afternoon with the Holiday Bazaar and performances.
BOOK SALE
Our biggest book sale yet will take place next Wednesday from 11:00 AM, bring 5,000 and a bag and fill it up. The book sale will take place in the lunch room on the A Block ground floor.
The books are pre-loved ISY books, proceeds go to the Chinthe Fund. Students can visit the book sale during the day, parents are welcome during the Holiday Bazaar.

December Appreciation
Every December at ISY, we come together as a community to show our gratitude towards our custodians, maintenance staff, security team, administrative and instructional staff, and all other staff members who help make our school special. This year, we would like to present our staff with longyis from our ISY community as a sign of appreciation, thanks, and respect.
One longyi will cost 15000 kyats and donations can be made in 3 ways:
- Online Cashless Donation using these instructions.
- In person at the Chinthe Zay Store or at the Business Office.
- Instead of cash, new longyis can also be donated by leaving them on the front steps
The donation deadline is Wednesday, November 6, 2023.

DONATIONS NEEDED
Used Toy and Clothing Sale will be held at the Holiday Bazaar on the 6th of December. Currently, we are seeking donations of gently used toys and clothing to be sold at this fundraiser for The Chinthe Fund.

BOB GARMSTON VISIT
Last month, we were fortunate to have worked with Dr. Bob Garmston, a very influential educator and academic whose work has had a profound impact on teaching and learning around the world.
Dr. Garmston is a co-developer of Adaptive Schools. Adaptive Schools ‘presents a productive, practical set of ideas and tools for developing collaborative groups in becoming effective and better equipped to resolve complex issues around student learning.’
Adaptive Schools strategies help teachers collaborate effectively in planning to meet the needs of all of our students. Also, and very importantly, these strategies can be used in the classroom with the students to create meaning and facilitate learning.
Adaptive Schools strategies can be very simple or quite complex, but they are all grounded in research around the science of learning. Adaptive School strategies build upon best practices, creating a consistency in how instruction happens and learning occurs throughout the school.

OUR NEXT BIG EVENT
There is always never-ending fun at ISY. The next big event after the Holiday Bazaar is the Family Sports Day on the 13th of January.
This event is making a comeback this school year. It is such fun for adults and students alike. Come along, get some exercise, and have some fun; mark your calendars.
CELEBRATING STUDENTS
The Pride of the Principal awards for this week, along with more students that have finished the first row of their Monday Math challenge card. Congratulations to all!
Executive Functioning Skill #2: Organization
This week, we continue with our exploration of executive functioning skills and examine organization. Organization is the skill of creating and managing a system to keep track of your plans and materials. The skill of organization can take advantage of a wide range of systems, applications or methodologies but the key is designing or selecting the most appropriate tools for an individual’s needs. So whether your child likes color coded notebooks, electronic apps or pen and paper planners, it really doesn’t matter as long as it’s a system they will and can use regularly. Proper organization can reduce stress and help us stay focused. Here are a few items of how you can support your child in developing planning skills by:
- Have your child regularly clear their own room. This will demonstrate the value of everything having a specific place.
- Have a specific place for your child to put their school belongings. The reliable location will help with morning departure and reduce stress.
- Use a family calendar to mark the week’s events. Pick a day of the week to sit with your family and complete the week’s activities. Children feel a sense of security when they can anticipate the family’s movements.
- Discuss with your child how you stay organized. Demonstrate the apps or methods that keep you on track throughout the week.

CHINTHE CUBS
The Chinthe Cubs are finishing up their first round of teacher interviews with this interesting chat with Ms. Sabine, one of ISY’s Grade 5 teachers. This is Ms. Sabine’s second year in Yangon, and tells of her experience within the ISY community.
