Jonathan O’Sullivan –  Athletics and Activities Coordinator

Dear Chinthes,

Last weekend we sent a contingent to the SEASAC MUN held at NIST International School in Bangkok. This was a valuable experience for all students and chaperones involved. Please continue reading for more information about this event and how our young (model) diplomats got on.

This week our ISY boys middle school football team played against International School Myanmar on Wednesday and Yangon International School on Thursday. The boys are building up to their end of season tournament on March 23, so these matches gave the whole squad a chance to get some valuable gametime. Please read the Middle School Athletics section for the match reports on these games.

    SEASAC Model United Nationas

Last week ISY sent 20 students to participate at SEASAC MUN hosted by NIST International School in Bangkok. We had 15 delegates and 5 Chairs who represented ISY in the three day conference. Students gave speeches, lobbied and merged to create resolutions, debated and chaired committees. Delegates and chairs alike embodied the ISY Learner attributes as they came with open minds, a willingness to collaborate, and a dedication to the principles and vision of Model United Nations. Alongside multiple schools from across South East Asia ISY students fostered discussions on these significant issues ranging from environmental to economic issues in 11 committees. All students strived to do their best, some as their first conference to our more experienced delegates and chairs. A special recognition to Ingyin (Grade 11) who was one of three people in the conference to win best chair for her work in the HSC committee and Ryan (Grade 9) who received an Honorable Mention in the WHO committee. Because of the hard work of our MUN students and teachers, MUN is becoming a strong focus in ISY extracurricular activities.

    Middle School Athletics

On Wednesday and Thursday the ISY boys middle school football team played friendly games against International School Myanmar and Yangon International School.
On Wednesday it was ISM who came to ISY. ISY battled valiantly through the first spell, conceding two early goals. However, they came back to make it 2-2 into the second half. ISY then played well to create, but ultimately squander 5 good chances and let ISM dominate the last 5 minutes and score 3 quick goals.

After Wednesday’s disappointment, ISY came roaring back in a controlled yet passion-filled game against YIS. ISY completely dominated the smaller opposition. ISY restricted YIS to only two or three chances. ISY on the other hand made many scoring opportunities converting many of them.
