On Friday afternoon and evening, ISY’s middle and high school badminton teams traveled to WOW Sports facility to compete in the Yangon Citywide Invertational Badminton Tournament. ISY had 28 athletes competing! Please read below in the Middle School and High School Athletics sections for how our badminton players went.
On Saturday the elementary school and middle school football teams played in a tournament at Star City Sports Complex. Both the elementary and middle school had two teams in the tournament. Please read below for a report on the day.
On Tuesday Yangon International School brought over two teams to ISY. These teams were grades 2 and 3 football and grades 4 and 5 basketball. Please read below in the Elementary School Athletics section for a report on those games.
On Monday and Wednesday the Community Sports Group organized and ran a 3V3 basketball tournament for the middle school and grade 9 boys and secondary school girls. This tournament was a great success. Please read below for a report on how this event went from the organizers.
Today marks the end of After School Activities for the school year. The students have had a wonderful time experiencing the different activities that our teachers, teaching assistant and outside vendors have had to offer. I am sure we are all looking forward to what ASAs will be available in the next school year.
Please note that some service learning groups will still run through to the end of the school year. If you are unsure if a SL group is continuing please see your SL leader.

On April 1st and 3rd, ISY’s Community Sports service learning organization organized an in-school tournament for middle and high school students. Day 1 of our ISY-only 3v3 basketball tournament was an absolute bucket!
Incredible matchups, fierce competition, and non-stop action on the court.
Day 2 ended off strong with a great final game. This was a great opportunity for students to showcase their skills on a higher level. You can visit Community Sport’s website here (https://csports.blogs.isyedu.org/) for more information, highlights, fixtures, and results!

Elementary School Athletics
It was great to have Yangon International School (YIS) come over and play our grade 2, 3, 4, and 5 students at football and basketball. The grade 2 and 3 teams played football and the grade 4 and 5 teams played basketball.
Because of the heat, we decided to move the football match inside. This was welcomed by all those involved! The grade 2 and 3 football teams were evenly matched and had a lot of fun. The match was in four 8 minute quarters. This gave all the players a chance to get great playing time. There were no scores taken but a lot of fun to be had by all the players, coaches and the parent supporters.
The grade 4 and 5 basketball players were very keen to play this match. They have played basketball in PE and some have participated in the basketball ASA this year. So this would be a chance to show off their ever improving skills.
Like the football, scores were not recorded for this match. And just like the football, fun was had by all. ISY played well and combined effectively to score many points. It didn’t always go ISY’s way but my feeling is that ISY scored more goals, if we were counting. It was also awesome to see a strong mix of girls and boys playing basketball. This is a great sign for ISY sports in the future.
On Saturday ISY entered two grade 3, 4, and 5 teams into the Yangon Inter-School’s Football Championship. This was a chance for our young footballers to test themselves against other schools from around Yangon.
The two teams that ISY entered, ISY Black and ISY Gold, were an even mix of our elementary school football players. Both teams were in different pools.
It was a hot day for all the athletes involved. Although there was shade available for the supporters there is never shade on the field. Both teams toiled hard and played as best they could. Unfortunately neither team would progress to the semifinals.
Well done to all our young footballers.
High School Athletics
On Friday afternoon and evening our middle and high school badminton teams played in the Yangon Citywide Invertational Badminton Tournament. This was a teams tournament against a number of the other schools around Yangon.
The tournament started at 1PM and the last birdie flew at around 8:45 PM. It was a long day for many of our athletes but the ISY spirit stayed with all of us right until the end. ISY should be proud of our badminton players because they played with skill, passion and determination.
In the end, ISY was determined the overall winner and took out first place.
Congratulations to everyone involved, coaches, supporters and players.
