Last Week of Quarter 1

Mike Simpson

Secondary School Principal

October 4, 2024

This first quarter has gone very fast. The students are tired but are working hard to the end! After the Thadingyut Break we will move to our regular 5 day school week. Classess will begin at 8:30am and finish at 3:05pm.

Thank you to those of you who met with Temily Tavangar, a multicultural anthropologist who is working with our school community to help us further our mission of nurturing compassionate global citizens.

Temily’s work aligns perfectly with our strategic themes of belonging and internationalism. She will be collaborating closely with us to ensure that our school community continues to be a place where every student, teacher, and staff member feels valued and included. Her focus on global citizenship and inclusive practices, particularly in the context of Southeast Asia, will enrich our understanding and strengthen our commitment to these important values.

We are confident that her expertise will play a crucial role in helping us build a stronger and even more inclusive community.

ISY’s Commitment to Child Protection and Safeguarding

At ISY, we take great pride in safeguarding our community, especially our students. We are committed to maintaining a comprehensive Child Protection Policy, which outlines the measures we have in place to protect students from physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. This policy, available on our website, details the strategies we employ to ensure student safety, including thorough recruitment checks, extensive training for all members of the school community, and clear expectations for staff behavior.

Our Child Protection Policy is aligned with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the 2019 Myanmar Child Rights Law. It is regularly reviewed and approved by the Board of Trustees and the Director to ensure that ISY remains at the forefront of best practices in safeguarding.
