ISY Service Learning

Uplifting Spirits, Achieving Dreams

We are proud to introduce a service learning group led by a team of passionate students coming together to support the patients at the hospital for children. The ISY students do not provide medical aid. Rather, they aim to bring joy and comfort to children facing long and difficult hospital stays.

Long hospital stays are never easy, especially if you are separated from family. Many of the children at the hospital are from rural areas and have traveled quite a distance from home in order to receive medical treatment. Having recognized this, the ISY team works hard to plan visits and activities for the children, ensuring each visit brightens the children’s day.

When the time we’ve spent planning activities brings smiles to children’s faces, it is incredibly rewarding” – Grace, Vice President (grade 11)

Meet the people involved in this service learning project. This team is led by its dedicated student leaders: Nick, the president (grade 12); Nicole, the co-president (grade 12); and Grace, the vice president (grade 11). Nick’s strong sense of purpose in wanting to lend a helping hand is what inspired him to join the group. For Nicole and Grace, the opportunity to make a direct impact, combined with their interest in healthcare and love for children, motivated them to become part of the team. What unites them is their shared commitment to making a difference in the lives of young patients.

The ISY students have found this project immensely fulfilling. They have gained incredible experiences and invaluable lessons along the way. From enhancing leadership and communication skills to learning the value of kindness and commitment, each member has witnessed personal growth. They have discovered that making a difference doesn’t always require grand gestures; sometimes, it is the small acts, like spending time with the children, that leave the most enduring impact.

For all of us, this has been a journey of growth and making lasting memories that go beyond the classroom. These experiences and lessons learned through our engagement will continue to inspire us to give back and make a difference in the world.

Turn compassion into action!
