The ISY Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 6:30 PM in the ISY Multi-Purpose Room. The purpose of the AGM is to present an overview of the 2024-25 school year and to elect new members to the Board of Trustees.

Two positions on the ISY Board of Trustees will be up for election at the Annual General Meeting. Profiles of the candidates for this year’s election will be populated below by April 28, 2025. We are fortunate to have two Myanmar nationals, Andrew Kyaw and Shane Thu Aung, as well as Yang Yang, a Chinese national, who have all applied for the Board of Trustees vacancies. ISY Board policy states that no nationality can make up more than 50% of the governing body. Taking into account the existing makeup of the board, only one of the newly elected positions can be a Myanmar national.

Parents will therefore have the opportunity to elect either Andrew Kyaw or Shane Thu Aung for one of the vacant positions on the ISY Board of Trustees. As Yang Yang is the only expatriate national to apply, she will be elected by acclamation at the AGM.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance of the school. This includes articulating long-term vision, setting policy, safeguarding financial integrity, and protecting the school from risk. The Board also adopts the annual budget, sets tuition and fee scales, and approves major facilities improvement projects. Finally, the Board selects, hires, supports, and evaluates the ISY Director, who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the school. Successful candidates will serve a two-year term ending May 2027. The Board Member Profile can be found here.

In-person voting will occur at the AGM on Monday, May 12, 2025. If you cannot attend, please complete the Absentee Ballot Declaration Form and the Absentee Ballot sheet. These will be available to complete from April 28, 2025 until May 12, 2025 from Swe Zin Aye at the ISY, ‘B’ Building. The Absentee Ballot Declaration Form and the Absentee Ballot sheet must be completed in ‘B’ Building at ISY.

During the meeting, the election of two new ISY Board members will be finalized. All the details about the election and the responsibilities of Board Members can be found on this post dedicated to the elections. This post will be populated with the introductions of the board candidates on April 28, 2025.

The new candidates for the ISY Board of trustees are:

Shane Thu Aung

Andrew Kyaw

Yang Yang

Shane Thu Aung is a Myanmar national who has two children currently attending ISY in grades 8 and 10. He is currently the Chairman of a leading telecom service provider in Myanmar, having spent over 2 decades at the forefront of organizational development. He holds a Masters degree in Organizational Development from Assumption University in Thailand. Shane is committed to contributing meaningfully to institutions that uphold excellence, inclusivity, and global mindedness, values that he deeply admires about ISY. He has recent board experience, serving on the Board of Governors at The American Chamber of Commerce as well as The Digital Initiative Committee of The European Chamber of Commerce. Shane would be honored to bring his experiences to help ensure that ISY continues to thrive for the benefit of the students, and the wider community.

Andrew is a Myanmar national and an ISY alumni who has a son currently in ISY’s Chinthe Cubs. He graduated from Griffith University, Australia with a degree in Biomolecular Sciences. Andrew has experience working in sales & marketing, trading, construction, food and beverage, in addition to service-related work, and mining. As a passionate Chinthe alumni, Andrew is a clear-headed thinker, and someone not afraid to communicate and voice his opinions. He would like the opportunity to commit his time and effort to help the ISY Board of Trustees maintain and improve standards.
Yang Yang is a Chinese national who has called Myanmar her second home for over a decade. She has a child who is currently studying at ISY in Grade 3. Yang Yang has 16 years of experience in Human Resource Management with particular focus on strategic planning, organizational development, and stakeholder engagement – skills that she believes align closely with the ISY Board of Trustees’ Mission. If elected, Yang Yang will prioritize fostering an environment where every voice is valued, respected, and empowered. Her sense of belonging is the most important reason that attracted her to become a candidate for the ISY Board of Trustees, along with her dedication and passion to advance ISY’s legacy.
