ISY Service Learning

A Year to Capture

As the school year comes to an end, the Service Learning Blog correspondents had a chance to look back on their achievements and reflect.

The Service Learning Blog started out as a small group in September 2024. During that time, the correspondents had no clue of what the articles would look like, whether they would have time for interviews, or if people would even be interested in the Blog. Yet, we were determined to use our passion and skills to make a difference within the community. Now, ending the academic year, with more members and 22 published articles, we’ve conducted countless interviews with the faculty, students and our partner organizations. Most importantly, our goal was achieved: celebrating the various achievements of service learning groups through compassion and enthusiasm!

During the year, the correspondents learned to write and publish articles in a fun yet informative style. Throughout this process, the correspondents also learned the skills of communication, collaboration and creativity. By conducting interviews, the correspondents were able to connect with the community members, gaining insight into the real-world.

Here’s what some of the correspondents enjoyed about being part of this team:

I really enjoyed the fun environment and being able to laugh at every meeting. We weren’t only learning new skills like writing and time management, but also making and building relationships.” – Tuesday (grade 9)

I enjoyed working together to edit articles and being able to collaborate with everyone – it always felt like we were working together toward something that mattered!” – Cindy (grade 10)

Service learning is not only about visiting organizations and making donations. Sometimes, it’s through a teaspoonful of words from a group of compassionate Chinthes, ready to make a difference.” – Eaindray (grade 9)
