ISY Service Learning

Another Dose of Health and Happiness

On January 11th, children from our Chinthe Fund partners, the Care to the Least Center (CLC) and the Kalitaw school, came to ISY for their regular clinic appointment. This was an amazing opportunity for ISY students to learn more about healthcare and contribute to service. After training from ISY’s Dr. Aye Mon and Ms. Nixon, grade 11 students weighed and measured the temperature of the children. Other high school students shared words of encouragement and applied ice to the vaccinated children. While giving out snacks, we played games with the children and learned more about them. It was so heartwarming to see the children run off to play in the gym with ISY’s grade 4 students.

We interviewed ISY faculty, the leaders of CLC, and Kalitaw to learn more about this project. The purpose of the clinics is for medical check-ups and vaccinations. We were happy to receive a donation of multivitamins and medicines. These clinics have certainly made a difference in the health of the children.

This visit from CLC and Kalitaw showed us that little actions can lead to great results. Here, we focused on SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). We are so grateful for this hands-on experience and wish for more opportunities! Aligning with ISY’s Mission and Vision, ISY students demonstrated that we are compassionate global citizens striving to make a difference in the world.
