Athletics & Activities Blog – February 5

Please follow the rules while wearing a mask.

Earlier this year, we reopened the facilities after a short break. Since reopening, ISY has been very clear that people using the facilities need to wear masks at all times, stay in groups of no more than six, and social distance at 6 feet apart. This is for the safety of the whole community and follows both government and health guidance. Recently, members of the PE department have increasingly had to remind members of the community about the rules that we have in place. Unfortunately, those reminders have not always been followed. Please let me emphasize again that these rules are for the safety of the community and must be obeyed at all times. We need to make sure everyone is safe at all times at ISY, which necessitates we all do our part and follow the rules.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce to our talented PE assistants so that it is easier for you to put a name to a face when one of them approaches you.

Maung Maung Tin

Coach Maung Maung has been at ISY since 2012.  He was a member of the Myanmar National Baseball team from 1990 – 2001.  He participated in the 23rd South East Asia (SEA) Games in the Philippines (2005) and the 24th SEA Games in Thailand (2007).  Your children will know Maung Maung from his work in MS/HS PE as well as coaching the MS & HS boys soccer teams and the HS boys softball team. Maung Maung’s wife Amy is a teaching assistant in the Science department at ISY and helps coach the girls soccer and softball teams.

Myat Zarchi Hlaing

Zarchi has been at ISY for five years.  She holds a black belt in Karate and was selected for the Myanmar National Team in 1999.  She competed in the 20th SEA Games in Brunei (1999) and the 23rd SEA Games in the Philippines (2005), where she earned a bronze medal! From 1999 to 2008 she was the women’s Karate representative for the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC). Your children will see Zarchi online and in person helping with ES PE and assistant coaching MS & HS girls basketball.

Saw Htoo Ghay Poe

Coach Saw Htoo is easily recognized on campus.  He has been at ISY since 2015. The kids in ES PE classes love Mr. Saw Htoo, but he also helps with MS/HS PE classes. Saw Htoo is a Ministry of Sport First Division Volleyball Player who specializes in strength and conditioning training.  He also helps coach the HS & MS boys volleyball teams.  Before coming to ISY Saw Htoo worked at the Ministry of Construction and Ministry of Livestock Fisheries and Rural Department.

Athletics Blog – August 19th

As the new Athletic Director, I am excited to be here at ISY and I’m as ready as you are to start the new school year. My first blog post will be a very busy one, with information on secondary and elementary school athletics programs, as well as Session 1 ASAs. I know many parents are also excited to see what the swim programs have to offer this year so there is a special page set aside for that as well.
