Athletics & Activities Blog – March 6

Lions, Lambs, and Chinthes

Have you ever heard the saying, “March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb”?  In my home state of Colorado, USA, this statement alludes to the weather: blizzards and snow in the beginning and flowers blossoming by the end.

I think at ISY it can mean that the beginning of March starts off busy with the Gala, new ASAs, ES Field Day, Family Fun Day, and ongoing sports seasons.  But by the end of the month, most sports seasons are over and our seniors are getting ready to take a big step out of the limelight to focus on their IB exams. In addition, the weather gets hotter and we all start to think about easing into April Break and the cool water that comes with the Thingyan Holiday.

For now, let’s focus on the exciting days to come…

Elementary School Fun Day

ES Fun Day took place all day Friday, March 6 in the ISY gym.  Grades PK-1 participated in a series of stations in the morning and Grades 2-5 participated in the afternoon.  Students played ball games, raced through obstacle courses, hit targets, rode scooters, and scuttled under the big parachute.  At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed a cool locally-made popsicle treat – delivered in bulk so no plastic waste came onto campus!

Session 3 ASA Update

The Session 3 ASA packet can be found HERE!

Registration is currently open and will close at 10am Saturday morning.  Confirmation emails will go out to parents by Saturday afternoon.  If you are currently on a waitlist, you will be notified if a space opens up.   We will try to work on some of the waitlisted activities to add more students when possible.

Otherwise, you will need to contact Lisa Isom at lisom@isyedu.org  to switch to another activity if you are still on a waitlist once registration closes.

Session 3 Swim Team Registration

The ISY swim team is now a year-round program.  If your child did not participate in Season 2 but would like to tryout* for Season 3, please sign up HERE.  Tryouts will be scheduled for the week of March 9th.

*Tryouts entail making sure that each child has the ability to swim laps with confidence in the pool and understands the basics of three strokes: breast, back, freestyle.  If your child is unable to swim laps or needs a great deal of work on stroke technique, the Swim ASA for his/her age group is recommended.

If you are unsure if the swim team or the ASA is better for your child, I suggest registering for the swimming ASA, because it will fill up, and then cancel that ASA if your child makes the swim team

If your child is currently swimming but does not intend to continue for season 3, please email Lisa Isom at lisom@isyedu.org.

SEASAC Party

It’s been a tough season to be a SEASAC athlete.  With the Coronavirus outbreak on the international news on a daily basis, and and the situation changing moment-by-moment, all of our SEASAC hosts made the difficult decision to cancel their tournaments and festivals.

For this reason, we thought it would be fun to get students together to play some games, enjoy the swimming pool, and have dinner together.

ISY has invited each of our SEASAC athletes, artists and MUN delegates to a fun-filled evening at the American Club on Friday, March 13th.  We would like to celebrate our CHINTHE PRIDE and finish this SEASAC season – especially for our seniors – on a high note.

COVID 19 Self-Declaration Reminder

We would like to remind you that visitors to the ISY campus need to confirm that they have not been to China or South Korea, or knowingly come into contact with people who have travelled from China or South Korea in the last 14 days. Additionally, we are now asking that the same conditions apply to anyone coming from Italy or Iran on or after Tuesday, 25th February. People who have transited through airports in these places are OK to come on to campus.

Students who have travelled from either of these areas need to report to the ISY Clinic. This is in line with guidance that ISY is receiving from International Health Authorities with whom we are in daily contact.

This and other updates can be found on the website on our health clinic page.
