Athletics and Activities
Dear Chinthes,
Happy Holidays!!!
It is time to have a well earned break. We have finished two seasons of middle and high school Yangon Athletic Conference sports. Please read below for a recap of the first two seasons and the latest action from the middle school volleyball tournament. The facilities schedule will be changing over the holidays, please see below for the December break facility schedule.
Upcoming Athletics
Middle School Football
Wednesday 11th, January: Training starts for boys and girls
Middle School (MS) Athletics
Last Saturday our ISY middle school volleyball teams played their end of season tournament at the International School Myanmar. This would be the climax of the Yangon Athletic Conference season.
The girls team continued their dominance and won all their matches. This means they are the second middle school girls team from ISY this year to go undefeated through the season. Well done girls.
The boys were also heading into the tournament with form on their side. Unfortunately, sports have a way of not always doing what is expected. The boys lost one of their games and therefore ended up coming second in the YAC tournament. That is still a great achievement for these boys.
This year has been very good for ISY middle school sports. In the first season ISY won both the girls and boys basketball tournaments. The girls team also went through the season undefeated and the boys played a very good tournament in the end to clinch the titles. As stated earlier, the boys volleyball team didn’t quite match their basketball achievements but still came second with the girls winning the title.
In January, middle school football kicks off. There is still time to sign up to both the girls and boys teams. Those that have will start training on Wednesday the 11th of January.
High School (HS) Athletics
It has been a mixed bag of results for our high school teams for the start of this school year. What has always been a constant is the commitment and dedication from our young athletes! The girls and boys volleyball and football teams have worked incredibly hard this year to improve right through their respective seasons.
Our volleyball teams won the Yangon Athletic Conference championships and then traveled to Singapore for the SEASSAC tournament. They were successful there and won the tournament there as well!
Our football teams played well this season and made great gains in all areas. Our boys team won the YAC championship this year and our girls came fourth. What impressed me the most was the improvement of both these sides and we all look forward to seeing them represent ISY in the next football season.
