    SEASAC Boys Basketball

    SEASAC Girls Basketball

    SEASAC Girls Touch Rugby

(Repeated) On Thursday morning, ISY will be sending four teams to various SEASAC events/tournaments in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. These events will be SEASAC girls and boys basketball, SEASAC girls touch rugby and the SEASAC arts festival.

The boys basketball and girls touch rugby teams will both play their tournaments in Singapore. Boys basketball will play at the Australian International School and girls touch rugby will be played at United World College East.

The girls basketball and arts festival will both be held in Kuala Lumpur. The girls basketball will be held at Kuala Lumpur Alice Smith School and the arts festival will be held jointly between Garden International School and Mont’ Kiara International School.

It is exciting for our arts festival students because this is the first time since 2019 that a SEASAC Arts Festival has been held. I am very happy that ISY has an arts contingent for this returning event.

I am sure you will all join me in wishing all of our students the very best of luck and skill at these events.

    What is SEASAC?
The Southeast Asian Student Activities Conference is the athletics and activities conference that ISY belongs to outside of Myanmar. Each year ISY sends students to athletic, Model United Nations conferences and arts festivals. These events are a very valuable opportunity for our students to connect with other like minded students across Southeast Asia. This section in the Athletics and Activities blog will outline some of the important information and general happenings around SEASAC events.

    SEASAC Dates:
SEASAC Touch Rugby @ UWCE, February 2, 3 and 4
SEASAC Basketbal Girls @ Kuala Lumpur Alice Smith School, February 2, 3 and 4
SEASAC Basketball Boys @ NIST, February 2, 3 and 4
SEASAC Arts Festival @ GIS and MKIS, February 2, 3 and 4

    High School Athletics

On Tuesday ISY welcomed International School Myanmar to play our high school basketball teams. The boys basketball team would play first and then the girls basketball team. ISM is tipped as our teams’ biggest challenge for the Yangon Athletic Conference (YAC).
As they say in basketball, our team started “Cold”, and it seemed that none of our shots would go in. On the other hand, ISM were able to capitalize on our mistakes and score on many of their opportunities. After a while ISY warmed up and started to make some of their shots but by this time the deficit was too great and ISM would win, 27-48.
It was up to the high school girls basketball team to pull back the Chinthe pride in the next game. The ISM girls basketball team on paper was stronger than their boy counterparts so our girls would need to be at their best. Unfortunately, the girls came out cold like the ISY boys in the previous game. However, unlike the boys the girls would find some form and only trail 8-11 at the end of the first quarter. From there, there were touches of brilliance by both teams but ISM had two very good scorers on their team that would dominate most of the scoresheet. At the end of the third quarter ISM would lead 18-30 and at full time would win 20-41.
Both of our high school basketball teams will benefit from their respective SEASAC tournaments this weekend and it could well be a different story when we play ISM later in the season.

    Middle School Athletics

On Wednesday ISY traveled to International School Myanmar to play our first game of the middle school football season. This was our first Yangon Athletic Conference game.
This was our first outing as a team and we were rusty. However, considering this, ISY held the lead for much of the first half. This was always going to be a tough game because the ISM team was very skilled. The ISY boys football team put in a great effort but were well beaten by a very skilful side. 2-6 would be the final score of the match.

Our next match is at home today (Feb. 2) at ISY against ILBC International School.
