Jonathan O’Sullivan –  Athletics and Activities Coordinator

Dear Chinthes,

The term, ‘winding down’ does not seem to be in the ISY vocabulary. This week there were many events in the ISY calendar and athletics were among them.
On Friday, ISY hosted the ISY Friendly Swim Meet with ILBC International School, Network International School and Yangon International School. Then on Saturday, ISY had two elementary school teams in a football tournament at the 3M field. Please continue reading for updates on these athletics.
With the summer holidays starting soon some of the facilities schedule will be slightly changed. Please read below for all the information on how the facilities schedule changing may affect you.
Finally, ISY has some of the best facilities in Yangon and as ISY community members you are all welcome to come and use these facilities within the scheduled time. I would just like to remind you of two things. One, is that before you use any ISY facility you must fill out the Facilities Signup Form. The second is that our facilities are for the ISY community. Private coaches will not be granted access to the campus.

Elementary School Athletics

Elementary sport was in action last week with two events featuring our younger athletes. First was the Friendly Swim Meet hosted by ISY and the second was a football tournament on Saturday at 3M field.
For a recap on the swim meet please read the “Swim Team” section of this blog.
On Saturday, ISY entered two elementary school teams into the 3M football tournament. It was a hot day but an enjoyable one. Both teams played many games and all the players had a good amount of playing time on the field. The day was topped off with medals and certificates.
This was a good day for all.

Middle School Athletics

For a recap on the swim meet please read the “Swim Team” section of this blog.

Swim Team

Friday after school ISY hosted the ISY Friendly Swim meet. Attending were ILBC International School, Network International School and Yangon International School. This was a chance for our young swimmers to experience what it was like to be in a swim meet. This meet was for grade 3-8 athletes.
Our swimmers went through their warmups and were ready for their races. Our swimmers got to experience the thrill and excitement of being called for their race. They felt the nerves when they were sitting in the marshaling area waiting for their heat to be called. Then it is time to sit behind the starting blocks. Finally their race is called and it is time for them to feel the rush of competition when that whistle goes!
This was a great way to end the swimming year and to show what hard work our swimmers have put into their training this year. Next year we will have a full year of swimming so keep a lookout for more to come from our swim team.

The elementary school swim team will have their last training for the school year on Monday the 5th.
The middle and high school swim team will have their final training for the school year on Wednesday the 7th.

Facility Schedules

From June 10th the ISY facilities will move to our Summer schedule. This will not affect most of our facilities, however, the pool will be affected the most. The pool and gym will be closed for all public holidays. All other facilities will open as normal for the Summer Break.
