Athletics and Activities

Jonathan O’Sullivan –  Athletics and Activities Coordinator

Dear Chinthes,

It is with a bittersweet feeling that I write this last blog of the school year and for me, my last blog for my time working at ISY.
As many of you will already know, I am leaving ISY at the end of the school year and moving back to New Zealand with my family. I have been overseas for twenty years now and have enjoyed my time wherever I have lived. However, after twenty years it’s time for me to move home.
I am proud of my time here at ISY, first as a grade 5 homeroom teacher and now as an elementary school PE teacher and Athletics and Activities Coordinator. I took over this job as we came out of COVID and things were all very new. We had to remember how we did things pre-COVID or make up new and improved systems for how things worked at the time. We all worked to improve our systems and I would like to think that I have left this job in a better shape than when I came into it.
At ISY I have been blessed to work with great coaches that truly care about our athletes and students. That is something to be valued. Our coaches work above and beyond what is required in a coaching role to provide the best opportunities for our students. I have also appreciated that our coaches try to do their very best to win, but also, and in my view more importantly, teach our athletes what it is to be great humans.
Thank you to the parents that have supported our young ISY athletes for the last two years. This is right from elementary school up to high school. Whenever we have a match or tournament our parents come out in force. Long may this continue.
I want to give a huge endorsement to Ms. Bekka who will be coming into this role for next school year. She will bring an enthusiasm for ISY and a keen work ethic. Also, with the role encompassing the Arts Ms. Bekka will be ideally suited to build the Arts as well as continue to build our athletics and activities programs. I have no doubt that she will do a fantastic job.
That’s all from me and I hope you all have a wonderful break and an excellent 24-25 school year!

Community Sports Group

The Community Sports Group has started the ISY Football Mini-league. The first games were successfully held on Wednesday with the second round today (Friday). This is a very popular tournament and from what I hear from the first round of games it will continue to be a popular tournament for this year and for years to come!

For more information on the tournament and the Community Sports Group please follow this link to their website.

    ISY Sports Broadcasting

Last year a sports broadcasting club was started at ISY. They were able to cover some of our high school basketball games with great success. They produced a very professionally polished product.
This year they will cover our high school athletics for the whole year. If you are interested in this please follow the link below and this will lead you to the group’s Youtube page. So far the group has covered two high school volleyball games and some of the high school basketball games from last year.
