    High School Athletics

This week the ISY girls and boys basketball teams played a semifinal and a final game. The girls and boys both hosted their opponents on Tuesday and the winners would play for the championship and the losers would playoff for 3rd or 4th place.
On Tuesday the ISY girls played against YIS who dominated the rebounding with their added height from the start. This was difficult for our girls to combat. There were signs that we might be able to claw back into the game but YIS were deserved winners in the end. (YIS would go on to win the final.)
In the 3/4 final match ISY played ILBC International School. The ISY girls jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They beat ILBC for a third place finish in the end of the season tournament which capped off a successful season.

On Tuesday the boys played ILBC International School to see who would play in the championship match. ISY would win this match comfortably. That would set up a game against International School Myanmar. This season the teams shared a 1-1 win loss record against each other.
ISY started off down by 13 in the first quarter, but made a slow, methodical comeback throughout the rest of the game. In the middle of the 4th quarter, we tied the game, but it was short lived as ISM quickly scored a couple of buckets to pull ahead. ISY tried our best to aggressively play defense and quickly score. Unfortunately, ISM’s defense at the end was too tough and they scored a couple more times to beat us by 6 points.

The final results for the YAC season are, girls 3rd and boys 2nd. Success is measured by many things and not just the number of wins a team has. I can confidently say that our girls and boys basketball teams had many successes over the course of their season. All the players and coaches should feel happy and proud of their season.

    SEASAC Model United Nationas

This year the SEASAC Model United Nations is being held at NIST International School. Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. For example, a student may be assigned the United Kingdom and will have to solve global topics such as nuclear non-proliferation or climate change from the policies and perspectives of the United Kingdom.
Our ISY students are traveling to NIST as delegates and committee chairs. This year ISY has five committee chairs which might just be a record. The students traveled to NIST on Thursday and started their conference on Friday. I look forward to reporting more on this conference in next week’s blog.

    Middle School Athletics

The middle school badminton season will start next week. We will start with trials on March 6, at 3:30 in the school gym. Successful athletes should expect to practice on Monday and Wednesday at 3:30 PM for the remainder of the season.
