    Musical

I am very excited to announce that ISY will be performing the musical “Into the Woods” early in the new year. The wonderful directors for this musical will be Ms. Eagan, Ms. Fathah, Ms. Quigley and of course Ms. Jensen!
The directors will be holding auditions on November 13, 14 and 15. We are looking for students that are willing to do their best and try something new (or again). If you don’t have experience or are worried that you may not be the best at acting or singing, don’t worry. There are many roles, with many different skills needed. If you are interested, but would like to talk to someone about what it means to audition and be in the show, please contact either Ms. Bekka, Ms. Sahana, Ms. Cassie, or Ms. Q.

To audition you will need to do as follows. You need to sign up for individual auditions on November 13th, 14th and 15th. To sign up please use this document. You will need to prepare a monologue from this document and a song that highlights your singing and expressive skills. More details can be found on the sign up document.
Remember, the auditions are not about being perfect, but showing what you can do and who you are. All are welcome! Encourage each other to take this amazing opportunity!

    Good Luck!
The Directors (Ms. Cassie, Ms. Sahana, Ms. Bekka, Ms. Q)

    After School Activities

This is the last week of ASAs. Thank you to all the teachers, parents, student leaders and outside helpers that have provided a wide range of activities for our students. I think there was something for everyone to try, make a difference and have fun. Also, thank you to the students that have given something new a go or continued with something they love.
The next session will start on January 29. In January, please look out for information about how to sign up and what activities are on offer in this blog as well as the Principals’ blogs and the “Friday Notices” that are sent out by email.

    SEASAC Information

Last weekend ISY was represented by girls and boys football and volleyball teams at the first season SEASAC tournaments. Our football players traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia and our volleyball players traveled to Bangkok, Thailand. These tournaments are always a bit of a step into the unknown in terms of the level of competition; however, all the athletes and coaches traveled with an air of excitement.

    Football
Our football teams were in the 7-a-side tournament and, as mentioned earlier, the level of competition can be a very mixed bag. The level at this year’s tournament was high and our players had to adjust quickly to the fast paced nature of the style of play there. Our coaches helped with this and were able to make some tactical changes to help the teams out.
We have a young girls team that has continued to grow on their football journey and this was another step on that journey. Our girls fought hard for the whole tournament and should be congratulated for never giving up. Although ISY came ninth we showed signs of what our girls can, and will, be capable of in the future.
The boys had a lot more experience on their side and were able to match themselves with the other schools at the tournament. Although they initially found the going a bit tough they were able to play themselves into the plate final. Unfortunately they would end up losing this match but played with skill and heart.
On a very bright note however, both our teams won the sportsmanship awards at this tournament. That is also something to be very proud of.

    Volleyball
Our volleyball teams were both competing in the SEASAC Division 1 tournament. Both teams won their respective SEASAC tournaments last year, but both teams had a lot of players who have since graduated from ISY so this year’s teams looked a bit different. However, the volleyball programs at ISY are led by experienced coaches and these teams would arrive in Bangkok well prepared.
On the first day ISY girls were able to pick up a valuable win, unfortunately the boys were not able to follow the girls’ lead losing their games. The next day was a bit brighter for our teams because they both earnt their way into the plate final. This also meant that they would stay in Division 1 for next year’s SEASAC volleyball tournament.
The plate finals didn’t go to plan with both teams going down 1-3 to their respective oppositions. This was not the way that our athletes wanted to end their season but if we review their seasons they can be proud of their efforts that they have put into their training and play.

    What is SEASAC?
The Southeast Asian Student Activities Conference is the athletics and activities conference that ISY belongs to outside of Myanmar. Each year ISY sends students to athletic, Model United Nations conferences and arts festivals. These events are a very valuable opportunity for our students to connect with other like minded students across Southeast Asia. This section in the Athletics and Activities blog will outline some of the important information and general happenings around SEASAC events.

    SEASAC Dates:
SEASAC Football @ British School Jakarta, November 3, 4, 5
    SEASAC Volleyball @ NIST, Bangkok, November 3, 4, 5
SEASAC Golf @ Bangkok Patana School, November 22, 23, 24

    Football
It seems that at ISY a footballer’s work is never done. After a long but rewarding weekend our high school footballers will be in action in another tournament this Saturday. They will be competing in the Yangon Citywide Invitational Football tournament. This tournament traditionally kicks off the Yangon Athletic Conference football season. This tournament will also see the start to a busy two weeks for our high school footballers because of the condensed schedule for the YAC competition.

    New Season Signups
This is the time of year where sports can overlap and can make things a bit complicated for our athletes and coaches. If you are a student and want to sign up for a new season sport but are still playing an existing sport, please talk to your coaches of both sports and they will work out with you the best way to manage your time. They will also make sure that you don’t miss out on an opportunity to trial for a sport in the new season.

    The sports and coaches are:
    Football:
Girls – Coach Kuang Kyaw and Mr. O’Sullivan
Boys – Coach Maung Maung and Mr. Pozniak

    Touch Rugby:
    Coach Stacey and Coach Rentia

    Basketball:
Girls – Coach Just and Coach Zarchi
Boys – Mr. A-G and Mr. Smith

    Golf:
    Mr. Stuart

    ISY Sports Broadcasting

Last year a sports broadcasting club was started at ISY. They were able to cover some of our high school basketball games with great success. They produced a very professionally polished product.
This year they will cover our high school athletics for the whole year. If you are interested in this please follow the link below and this will lead you to the group’s Youtube page. So far the group has covered two high school volleyball games and some of the high school basketball games from last year.
