High School Athletics
Our high school football teams have just finished a very busy week. They played in the Yangon City Wide Football Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Then, due to our tight Yangon Athletic Conference (YAC) schedule, the teams then backed these efforts up with games on Monday and Tuesday.
The girls had a tough start to the tournament but were able to come out with a win! They beat the British School Yangon (BSY) 1-0. It is great to see the girls continuing to improve and show their skills. Unfortunately, the girls were not able to produce their best when it came to the playoffs and ended up 4th for the tournament, by losing a frustrating game to BSY.
Our boys played hard for the weekend and lost a close game in the semi-final. They ended up also coming 4th for the tournament.
Our teams will now focus on the Yangon Athletic Conference which we are currently in the middle of. The next games will be on the 22nd and 24th. On the 22nd ISY will host the International School Myanmar (ISM) and on the 24th ISY will travel to ISM for the return match.
The sign ups for season 2 have been completed. If any students missed the sign up sheets you can still sign up by emailing the athletics office and stating which sport you are signing up for. The sports for this season are tennis, basketball and girls torch rugby. If a student has signed up for a sport they would have received more details from the Athletics Office.
Swimming/Aquatics
Our wonderful head swimming coach, Coach Moe, will be leaving ISY at the end of December. She will be moving to Malaysia and has secured a job as a swim coach there. I am sure that everyone in ISY will join me in wishing her the best of luck in her new job and life.
ISY is hosting a farewell party for Coach Moe on the 10th of December from 11AM-1PM. There will be some fun pool games and fun races. Everyone is invited to come and show their appreciation of Coach Moe and what she has done for the ISY swim program.
With Coach Moe moving on, ISY has been searching for the best person to fill her place. I am pleased to announce that ISY has secured the services of a new head swim coach. The new head coach will be Coach Chu. She will take over the role in January but will start at ISY on Monday so she can get a chance to familiarize herself with the ISY swim program before Coach Moe leaves. Please pass by the pool and introduce yourself to Coach Chu.
Coach Chu is a former national swim team member. She is a certified International Swimming Coach, awarded by the ITK Internationaler Trainer Kurs, from the University of Leipzig, Germany. Coach Chu has a Bachelor Degree of Science focusing on Sports. She also comes to us with 17 years of experience in swimming and swim coaching.
Swim Team
There will be no swim training on Friday the 18th of November due to the pool being closed for the afternoon. The pool will be open from 8AM-12PM for lap swimming.
After School Activities: ASA
Last week was the last week for ASA for the first session. The next session will start at the end of January. Please look out for more information about that in January.
