Goooooooooooo Chinthes!!!!

It has been a memorable week for the mighty, mighty Chinthes. We have started the Yangon Athletic Conference in style. On Saturday our middle school basketball players triumphed in their end of season tournament and then on Tuesday our high school volleyball teams won their respective semi-final games. Then on Wednesday our volleyball teams faced, and beat, their cross town rivals in the girls and boys final to become champions again. Please read below for more details about all these athletic achievements.

Middle School (MS) Athletics

It is with great pleasure and pride that I write about our girls and boys middle school basketball teams that competed in the end of season tournament in the weekend. ISY had one girls and two boys teams competing.
In the boys division ISY Gold and ISY Black represented us all very well. ISY Black were able to win all their games and win the boy’s tournament. The highlight would be their game against the more fancied International School Myanmar. ISY had been beaten twice by ISM this year, however, as we know in sport, it’s not over until the season ends, and ISY Black were able to secure the all important win. This set them up for victories against Yangon International School and ISY Gold. ISY Gold deserves a special mention. They had a lot of younger and less experienced players in the team but they played and competed very well for the whole day.
In the girls division our ISY girls team carried on the tone they have set for the whole season. Although there were times that the opposition might have had them a bit worried, they fought through and were able to come through with an undefeated season! Undefeated seasons are always special and our girls should be proud of themselves.
I am sure you will join me in congratulating all our middle school basketball players.
The next sport for middle school will be volleyball. Please keep an eye on the gym doors after the break for sign-up sheets.

High School (HS) Athletics

This week the high school volleyball finals were held. ISY was the top seeds in both the girls and boys and so earnt the right to host the semi-finals. These games were played on Tuesday against ILBC International School. ILBC have had limited preparation time this year and were no match for our girls and boys teams. This meant the coaches could give their squads some big game experience.
There were times when both teams put themselves under some pressure but with skill were able to dig themselves out of it as well. Both the ISY teams won in three sets which was the best that we could hope for.
On Wednesday our teams traveled to Yangon International School (YIS) for the Yangon Athletic Conference championship finals. The girls and boys teams were defending champs and top seeds so anticipation and hopes were high. The girls were to play International School Myanmar (ISM) and the boys YIS. Both our girls and boys teams walked into the YIS gym with the championship trophies and confidence. They represented ISY with passion, commitment and skill and were able to walk out of the YIS gym as champions once again!
The girls played extremely well and were able to beat their main rivals in three sets. This has shown how much Coach Just and the girls have come this season. Remember that our girls lost to ISM in the preseason tournament, but on Tuesday they never looked like losing. There was even a fifteen point serving streak by one of our athletes in one of the sets. That is impressive. Well done girls!
The boys did not have it all their way against YIS but they were the better team on the day and had control of the game all the way through. The boys won the match and the championship in four sets. They were able to implement their gameplans and showed everyone what hard work they have put in over the last two months. A credit should also be given to the boys team coaches, Coach Saw Htoo and Coach Eagan. Well done boys!
