Athletics and Activities
Dear Chinthes,
There has been a lot of athletic action happening this week with our middle and high school athletes involved in a number of matches. Community sports have started at ISY with the option of badminton, pickleball and touch rugby.
The high school volleyball teams traveled to Yangon International School this week and also hosted International School Myanmar. Please read below the match reports on these games.
Our middle school basketball teams hosted ILBC International School on Wednesday evening. Continue reading for a rundown of what transpired in these matches.
There is an opportunity to play community sports again at ISY. On Thursday there is touch rugby and on Saturday there is badminton and pickleball. Please see the Community Sport section below for more information about both of these sports.

Elementary School Athletics
Next Friday, 22nd September there will be an internal swim meet at ISY. This will give our swimmers a chance to practice, go through the motions and experience what it is like to be in a swim meet but without the pressure of other teams being there. The athletes will do everything like they would do in a normal swim meet and try to set some personal best times.
Middle School Athletics
This week ISY hosted the ILBC International School middle school basketball teams. ILBC brought over girls and boys, A and B teams. The games were fast and fun as they are usually in middle school athletics.
The girls and boys A teams both won their matches. They showed that they were a cut above opposition.
The B team both lost to ILBC but that is okay because they showed that there is a lot of potential in the younger players in the ISY middle school.
High School Athletics
This week was a long week for our high school volleyball players. Our girls and boys varsity and junior varsity teams played two games.
First, on Wednesday, ISY traveled to Yangon International School (YIS). Our varsity teams played well and although the sets were close in all the matches our girls varsity team lost to YIS 2-3 and the boys lost 0-3.
On the brighter side both our JV teams won their matches in what was a very noisy environment.
International School Myanmar brought their girls and boys varsity and junior varsity teams to ISY on Thursday evening.
The volleyball competition this season must be the most competitive I have seen in a long time.
Both the girls and boys games went to 5 sets! The girls were unlucky to be on the wrong end of a 2-3 scoreline but the boys brought it home by winning 3-2.
Next up the JV teams played two very spirited games. The girls won 2-0 and the boys also won 2-0.
The high school football season will kick off this weekend with the Yangon Inter-School Football Championship tournament. This will be the first chance that our high school girls and boys will play as a team in competition this season. We wish both teams all the very best.
ISY Sports Broadcasting
Last year a sports broadcasting club was started at ISY. They were able to cover some of our high school basketball games with great success. They produced a very professionally polished product.
This year they will cover our high school athletics for the whole year. If you are interested in this please follow the link below and this will lead you to the group’s Youtube page. So far the group has covered two high school volleyball games and some of the high school basketball games from last year.
