Hello Chinthes!

Our Chinthe athletes have had another busy and successful week of athletics. Over the past weekend ISY had volleyball, basketball and table tennis games and tournaments. Then we also had volleyball and basketball games through the week. For the results of these please read the middle and high school athletics sections below.

This weekend will be our elementary school students’ turn to shine on the sports field. International School of Myanmar is hosting the Yangon Athletic Conference (YAC) elementary school soccer tournament. ISY will have two teams in this tournament, a grade 2-3 and grade 4-5 team. I am sure you will join me in wishing them well for these games.

Middle School (MS) Athletics

Middle school sports is alive and well at ISY! On Friday night two of the most exciting games of basketball in recent ISY memory were played by our girls and boys middle school teams. The boys played well in their game and jumped out to a big lead but unfortunately this was run down by a fast finishing International School of Myanmar team. The girls, on the other hand, played a double overtime thriller! The scores were locked after the second overtime and the only way the teams could be separated was through a free throw shootout. Our ISY girls held their nerve to win the shootout 3-2, which also meant they won the game.

On Wednesday we were treated to another two quality games of basketball by our girls and boys middle school teams. We played host to Yangon International School (YIS) and we won both games convincingly! The girls played a physical YIS girls team for a quality win. The boys certainly bounced back in style with a big win and also held YIS scoreless!! That is quite a feat in basketball. We congratulate both of those teams.

On Saturday ISY sent a table tennis team to Yangon International School for the Yangon Citywide Invitational Table Tennis Tournament. Our athletes represented ISY with skill, commitment and sportsmanship. Aung Phone Khant eventually came 3rd in the under 15 boys tournament. Well done to everyone that represented ISY with pride.

High School (HS) Athletics

On Friday night the ISY girls and boys high school varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams were in action playing Yangon International School (YIS) and YIS. All our teams were able to play with commitment and communication and win all their matches.
On Tuesday our boy’s varsity volleyball team and Wednesday our girl’s team traveled to International School Myanmar (ISM). Our boy’s team was able to fight through a hard fought match for another win!
On Wednesday it was the girls team’s turn to travel to ISM. The girls were facing the team they lost to in the preseason tournament final so it was always going to be a big game. After a strong start the ISM team were able to get an advantage. Unfortunately, our girls lost in a five set thriller to ISM.

Our athletes represented ISY with skill, commitment and sportsmanship. Kyaw Min Naing came 1st and Oak Soe Khant 2nd in the under 19 boys tournament.
