Athletics and Activities
Dear Chinthes,
It has been a relatively quiet week on the sports front at ISY. However, we do have some important events happening in the weekend and next week. Power Soccer starts tomorrow from 7:30 on the field. In the gym ISY is hosting the Yangon Athletic Conference Middle School Basketball end of season tournament. Then, on Tuesday and Wednesday, our high school varsity volleyball teams are playing in the end of season playoffs. For more details on all these events please continue to read below.
Please note that there will be some slight changes to the opening hours of some of the facilities during the upcoming holiday. Please read below for the exact details.

High School Volleyball Finals on Tuesday and Wednesday
Our girls and boys varsity volleyball teams will be playing their finals games on Tuesday, 4th, and Wednesday, 5th, at the Yangon International School. Tuesday will be the semi finals and Wednesday the final. The games will start around 3:30 in the afternoon. Supporters are encouraged to turn up and cheer for our Chinthe athletes!
I know the whole ISY community will wish them the best of luck and skill for these games.
Go Chinthes!
Middle School (MS) Athletics
It has been a short, but very full season of basketball for our middle school players. Tomorrow marks the culmination of the season with the end of season tournament. Three teams from ISY, two boys and one girls, will be playing for the championship against the Yangon International School (YIS) and the International School of Myanmar (ISM).
This will be a testing day for our young athletes and any support would be welcomed. The games start at 8:30 in the morning. Our boys teams will have a chance to avenge a couple of losses against ISM and hopefully win the title. They have been working well with Coach A-G and some of the senior students.
Our girls team will have a chance to go unbeaten for the season. They will also face YIS and ISM. The games have been very even so far this year and the girls have been working hard at practice to get better.
I know that the whole ISY community will be behind you all!
High School (HS) Athletics
This week our high school volleyball teams finished their league games in style! On Tuesday we welcomed International School of Myanmar (ISM) for games against our junior varsity (JV) and varsity teams.
Our girls varsity team set the tone for the afternoon by avenging a loss to ISM from earlier in the season. The last time these two teams played, ISY lost in five sets, however, our athletes were able to turn that result around in style. Our girls varsity team won in four sets and are looking focused for the finals next week.
On the other court our boys JV team also started off with a comfortable win against their ISM rivals. Our JV boys won in two sets!
Then it was the turn for the varsity boys team. After winning the first set they allowed ISM to get a roll on in the second set and ended up losing this set, for the score to be tied at 1-1. This proved to be a good wake up for our ISY and they played much better and closed out the match 3-1.
The final result of the night was left to our girls JV team who also won their match. JV games are always a great opportunity for our up and coming players to get valuable court time and use the skills that they are learning in practice. This is exactly what our JV girls have been doing every time they get out on the court to play.
