Athletics and Activities
Dear Chinthes,
This week our middle school athletes had their chance to play their first matches of the new school year. On Wednesday they played at ILBC International School and on Friday we will host Yangon International School. Continue to read below for how they went. Our high school volleyball teams continued their season this week with a game against ILBC International School. This was another great game from ISY. Please read below for how this game progressed.
If you are enthusiastic about athletics at ISY but can’t get to the games here is an opportunity to watch the games that you have missed. Continue reading below for more information about watching athletics at ISY on demand.
This week we finished another full week of after school activities (ASA) and this was also the last week to change an ASA if you wanted.
After School Activities
This week was the last week that students would be able to switch their after school activities. This is so the teachers of each ASA can now have some consistency in attendance.
Please remember that elementary school ASAs finish at 3:05pm and middle and high school ASAs finish at 3:25pm. Students will be ready for pick up from the Teak Steps at these times. When elementary school ASAs have finished, elementary school students should be waiting at the Teak Steps for pickup, even if they are waiting for an older sibling.

Elementary School Athletics
During PE the elementary school students from grades 2-5 have been learning about the 3 Principles of Games. These principals are Play by the Rules, Play Fair, and Show Sportsmanship. To practice these three principles we have been learning and playing different games in PE.
Middle School Athletics
This week was a big week for our middle school basketball players. ISY had two matches for our girls and boys teams. On Wednesday ISY traveled to ILBC International School. This was a big test for our young athletes, for some of them this was their first game of basketball ever!
The girls played first and started with a bang. They scored the first points, however, to some confusion they scored them for ILBC! This did not worry our athletes though because we then scored the next six points as well to lead 6-2. So ISY had scored the first 8 points of the match! Although ILBC were to catch up in parts of the match ISY had control of the game from start to finish. ISY eventually won 18-8. Or 20-6, if you consider all of our goals.
The boys were next and they continued from where the girls left off. They had some moments where they were neck and neck with ILBC but showed a bit more control when it counted. The boys won 19-12.
Today, Friday 9 September, our girls and boys A and B middle school teams play Yangon International School at the ISY gym. The games will start at approximately 3:45pm. Spectators are most welcome.
Tomorrow representatives from ISY will be playing in the Yangon Citywide Table Tennis Tournament at Yangon International School. We wish these athletes the very best of luck!
High School Athletics
On Tuesday ISY hosted the ILBC International School girls and boys high school volleyball teams. ILBC brought over A and B squads so this was a great opportunity for all our high school volleyball players to get some time on court.
The A teams started off the evening with some very consistent play. The girls were able to put their loss from last week behind them and win comfortably 3-0. The girls played more consistently for longer periods of time. This is something that Coach Just will be looking for over the rest of the season. If you missed this game you can watch it on demand. Just follow the link in the ISY Sports Broadcasting section below.
On Court 1, the boys were looking to continue their form from last week. They showed why they are the early league leaders this season with another fine 3-0 win.
Following these games our younger high school volleyball players had a chance to shine. The boys were able to continue from where the A team left off and ran out comfortable winners in their match.
The match of the day was saved for our girls B team. This game ended up being a three set thriller! ISY lost the first set but then went on to win the second set to set up a grandstand finish. This was the last game of the evening and no one left early, such was the dramatic nature of this game. ISY and ILBC traded points all through the deciding set until ISY was able to clutch a win from the jaws of defeat, winning 2-1. The ISY athletes in this game would have learnt a lot about handling pressure.
Tomorrow representatives from ISY will be playing in the Yangon Citywide Table Tennis Tournament at Yangon International School. We wish these athletes the very best of luck!
High School Athletics
Last year a sports broadcasting club was started at ISY. They were able to cover some of our high school basketball games with great success. They produced a very professionally polished product.
This year they will cover our high school athletics for the whole year. If you are interested in this please follow the link below and this will lead you to the group’s Youtube page. So far the group has covered two high school volleyball games and some of the high school basketball games from last year.
