“Winter” 2020

I am from the mountains of Colorado in the United States and I was telling a good friend back home over break that “winter sports” were starting up when I got back to ISY.  She laughed and said something about all seasons being relative.  We were skiing in several feet of fresh snow at the time and it was truly hard to imagine the heat of a Myanmar “winter”.

That said, it does feel much cooler in the pool for the swimming programs so we’ve turned up the heat a bit, and our soccer players can be out midday without needing extra water breaks.  But that won’t last long!  This is my first year in Myanmar but it is my understanding that we should all enjoy the weather now as it will start to get extremely hot very soon.

ISY Brings Home the “Duel in the Pool” Trophy Once Again!

For the 2nd year in a row, ISY has won the “Duel in the Pool” Swim Competition against the British School Yangon.  Keep in mind that ISY’s swim program is only three years old and the improvements over the past couple of years have been worth noting.  Our swimmers in grades 1-12 had many personal best times over the course of the day and tallied a final score of 682 to BSY’s 455.

In addition to the competitive event on Saturday, an ISY development team of U12 swimmers went to BSY on Friday night to participate in a friendly meet against BSY and Network.  Over 30 athletes participated and established base or qualifying times for future events.  Some of the swimmers were experienced racers but for others, this was their first time racing in the pool!  Congrats to all these young racers – they are the future of the program.

Complete results will be mailed to parents this week.  If you would like a copy, please email me directly at lisom@isyedu.org.

As special thanks to Coach Moe, Coach Win, Coach Kyaw and Ms. Hofmann for all their hard work this weekend!

Color Run 2020

The ISY Girl UP Club is collaborating with another service learning group, Building Blocks, from the Yangon International School, which raises funds to aid various education projects around Yangon. Together they will be creating a Color Run for children of all ages, parents, and friends of both schools on January 25, 2020 at 8:00am.

The main aim of this event is to raise funds which will be used for club projects, as well as advocating for increased female participation in education and sports, primarily focusing on the Yangon community.

To register a whole team/ individual members please contact Marissa Powers at powerem@isyedu.org.
