Athletics Blog – Community Education

Lisa Isom, Athletics Director

The philosophy of ISY is to be both a school and a community center for its families and faculty. By offering activities and courses for adults, we are aligning with ISY’s vision of developing lifelong learners.  With that in mind, we are excited to announce a few opportunities for Community Education this fall.

Parent Book Club

Parents are invited to join the ES and MS counselors for a Book Club starting Monday, October 21st. Participants will be reading “Unconditional Parenting” by Alfie Kohn. Alfie writes about ways of rethinking parenting and presents several alternative approaches for interacting with and responding to children. Even if English is not your first or second language, you are welcome to join this group and listen to the discussions.

This club is intended to be educational, supportive, self-reflective, and fun! We will discuss the challenges you face as parents, how our own behaviors might be affecting our relationships, and alternative strategies for addressing challenging situations with your children. Book Club will run for a total of 8 weeks and registration will open in PowerSchool on Monday, September 9th. Class will take place the Learning Commons, 3rd Floor SAS Building from 8:30-10:00am.

Please download a digital version or purchase your own hard copy for book club. For more information, Patty (escounselor@isyedu.org) in the ES or Ron (rfast@isyedu.org) in the MS.
