Blog Post
Dear all,
This week, we celebrated Lunar New Year with a special assembly for the whole school; thank you to our Parent Association and all the parents involved for their work in helping make this special event happen. The parent dance was a highlight. The event was truly spectacular. Photos will be coming soon on Facebook.
This weekend is a long weekend; on Monday, there is no school, and we will see you all again on Tuesday.
The following weekend is the Family Fun Fair, which is always a great event. There will be loads to do, with games, a bouncy castle, a Ferris wheel, food, and much more.
Next week is the Grade 5 Chinthe Expedition to Bago. We look forward to having a wonderful adventure and for creating opportunities for the students to collaborate, learn and have fun.
Take care,
Ms. Sheppard

Working Memory: Another Executive Functioning Skill to Support Your Child’s Success
This week we are discussing the executive functioning skill of working memory. Working memory is the ability to maintain or hold information in the brain while using that information to perform a task. We use this skill every day in life, for example, remembering your shopping list, asking for directions and remembering the steps in order to get there, learning the name of someone new and keeping it in mind throughout the conversation. Strong working memory skills can help your child be more efficient and accomplish tasks quicker. You can support your child develop working memory skills by:
- Playing memorization games like memory or concentration. Children have to remember where specific images or cards are in order to be successful in the game.
- Allow your child to teach you skills, like how to dribble a basketball or play a video game.
- Play card games like UNO, Go Fish or Crazy Eights. Children need to remember the rules, know their cards and play appropriately. All working memory skills.
- Encourage active reading. When listening or reading a story, have your child draw a mental image of what is happening. Keeping character and plot sequence in order can assist in developing working memory.
- Chunk up multiple step directions. Long sequences are hard for anyone to remember, provide & have your child complete 2-3 steps before delivering more the last 3 steps.
