ISY Campus

The ISY Family Fun Fair is back! This event is organized by our Student Council and our Student Service Learning Groups.

As in the past, there will be lots of fun things to do including rides for the children and fun activities organized by our Student Service Learning Groups. There will also be a wide selection of food stalls and vendors who align with ISY’s strategic themes and commitment to environmental consciousness.

As you are having fun, you will learn all about our ISY students’ service learning initiatives and how you can help them be a force for positive change in the world. You will also be raising money for these initiatives so our students can continue their great work and our ISY community can continue to support our partner projects.

More information will follow in the coming weeks.

SAFEGUARDING

On Wednesday, our counselors hosted a parent evening to review ISY’s policy on safeguarding children and explore how students use a popular application, Discord, to stay in touch with one another.  Ideas were shared about how to keep students safe when using internet applications.

As part of Wednesday’s presentation, the following useful links were shared as resources for parents to better understand Discord:

The Wizard of Oz

After a number of years away, ISY is proud to present “The Wizard of Oz” to the community.  It is being performed by students from every level of the school and we are having lots of fun putting it together.  Performances will be February 11th and 12th starting at 6:00pm and will be located next to the library.  Please come and support the students and enjoy the show!

SPIRIT WEEK

Dear Chinthes and ISY community,
The ISY Family Fun Fair is coming up soon on Saturday, February 18! Part of this year’s fun will be a special booth called the ‘Second Hand Market’.
The Second Hand Market will sell second hand clothing (all ages), books (all ages), and toys. All proceeds from the Second Hand Market will go to the ‘Chinthe Fund’ that supports our ISY Partner Projects (including Yangon Animal Shelter and Care to the Least Center Orphanage). And any items not sold will be donated to our ISY Partner Projects.
We would like to collect as many items as we can to sell at the Second Hand Market. Please donate gently used clothing, books, or toys to this great cause. You can make donations on the Front Steps. From this Monday, January 30 there will be baskets on the Front Steps to donate your clothing, books, and toys.
We thank you in advance for donating and supporting our ISY Partner Projects as well as STUCO and our Service Learning Groups who are organizing the ISY Family Fun Fair. See you all on Saturday, February 18!
Kind regards,
High School Student Council (HS STUCO)

VISIT

On Wednesday, Dr. Hedger, the Principals, some members of faculty and some students all visited a school near the Kalihtaw Dam north of Yangon. They got to meet some of the students there and engage with them as well as see the facilities of the school. This is all part of the Access to Education Service Learning program at ISY.

Talking with your Child about Their Day

Parents often wonder how to get their child to tell them more about their day at school.  They report getting shrugs or simple one word answers to their daily request for how their child’s day went.  So what are some alternatives to our daily How was your day? question.

What was the funniest thing that happened today?

Tell me a highlight (or low point) in your day.

Tell me about your specialist class today.

Was anyone kind to you today?  Were you kind to anyone today?  Tell me about it.

Were you able to help someone today?

What made you smile today?

What did you fail at today?

What did you do during recess?

What are you grateful for today?

Were you able to try something new today?

What was the hardest part of today?

Who did you sit with at lunch and what did you talk about?

If you could have a re-do, what would you re-do in your day?

Ms. Patty is available for all ISY families.  She can be reached at escounselor@isyedu.org

ART ROOM FUN

Grade 2 class book and the ES Art classroom has something mysterious hidden under a white piece of material. Children have been using the inquisitive nature to ask questions about what might be hiding. What might you think it could be?
