Mission
The International School Yangon is a community of compassionate global citizens.
Vision
We aim to develop lifelong learners who will be a force for positive change in the world.
Dear Parents,
Our students have become very enthusiastic about getting involved with extra curriculum activities. During their lunch times, they can take part in the Elementary School Chinthe Roar and reading groups. On Monday’s we have Math Day, where students from Grade 2 to 5 can try to answer Math questions that are posted outside my office. I also host students for lunch in my office twice a week, which Grade 4 and 5 students can sign up for.
There is always something fun happening at school, this week our students from Grade 2-5 took part in a flash mob. They visited the Middle School and Senior School assemblies and surprised the students by singing our Chinte school song. They did a fantastic job and thank you to Ms Bekka for her guidance.
Our Elementary School Chinthe Roar group posted announcements about the Halloween events on the TV screens. See the dates below for these events.
Don’t forget to check out the new learning story on our website; see the link below.
We thank you for your continued support, and we cannot wait to see you at all our upcoming events.
Ms. Sandy Sheppard
Elementary School Principal
Wonderful Art
Look at the wonderful work that the students took part in for Peace Day in the Life Skills class with Ms Patty.
TURNSTILES
The students will soon be receiving their Identification bracelets. They will need to have these every day so that they can enter through the school’s turnstiles.
The turnstiles will be activated again on October 24th.
LEAVING SCHOOL
Elementary students cannot leave the school grounds on their own. If you wish your child to leave this should be shared with ISY security.

Powerful Words
Language is powerful. It expresses emotion, thoughts, beliefs and ideas. As children explore language, they experiment with words, seeking understanding and trying out how to use them properly. In this experimentation, they can stumble upon words, such as swear or curse words, that you may feel are inappropriate. So how do you as a parent respond when your child repeats words or phrases they have heard that are meant for more mature listeners?
Remain Calm: Most children stumble upon inappropriate words through social media or popular music and are seeking to try them out to see what type of reaction they get from their use. A strong reaction will bring unwanted attention to the word and your child may be more tempted to repeat them to achieve that strong response.
Explain your Beliefs: Share with your child your family’s beliefs about inappropriate words. Who, when or why might someone in your home be permitted or not permitted to swear? Explain your family’s values about swear words.
Define: Often children don’t understand the meaning of these words but understand they get a strong reaction. Using age appropriate explanations can help your child understand them and why they are not appropriate.
Offer Alternatives: Great creative and brainstorm a list of words with your child that can be used in times of frustration or excitement.
If you have other questions or concerns regarding your child, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Patty at escounselor@isyedu.org. As the elementary school counselor, she is available to all ISY families for support.

Sustainable Goals Book Club
On Thursday, we read the book ‘Luna and Me by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw
This is a true story of a girl who lived in a tree to save a forest. We loved the book; the words were pretty, and the pictures were great. The book was very calming, and it sent a very good message that we can make a difference. We think the book would be great for students at ISY, especially those who love nature and stories with strong girl characters. We loved Butterfly, the girl in the story, and how she felt about Luna, the tree in the story. We were amazed that she actually lived in the tree. The story has a very important message.
