Elementary School Blog – August 16
Sandy Sheppard, Elementary School Principal
16 August 2019
Welcome back everyone to the new school year.
It is wonderful to have your children back with us at school, we missed them. This blog will be sent out each Friday and will contain important information and dates, as well as reminders. I hope you take the opportunity to read it each week.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Parent Community Coffee Morning, it was lovely to catch up with so many of you.
I hope you have seen our new playground. The children are certainly enjoying exploring all the new equipment. We will be adding things to the playground over the coming months e.g. items for our spare parts area, in-ground trampolines and toys for our new Mud Kitchen.
We are all looking forward to a wonderful school year.
Sandy Sheppard
Driver Instruction
Don’t forget to read the email from our Communications Coordinator about this opportunity for instruction for your drivers.
Reminders
-We do not use single use plastics on campus, please keep this in mind when bringing food for celebrations into school and when packing your children’s snack and lunch. We encourage reusable drink bottles and lunch boxes.
-Your child should bring a named hat to school everyday. The children should be wearing a hat at recess times when playing out of shaded areas
Homework
Here in the Elementary School we encourage students to read every night as their homework. On occasion the students will bring work home related to classroom work, this is a way to share their learning with you. They may also be asked to follow-up on projects they are working on at home. The teachers over the coming weeks will be sharing with you websites and apps that are beneficial for students to use at home.
Traffic
Please remember that the school bus is available for students, it is a great way to avoid traffic delays. You can register here.
Seesaw
Seesaw is our portfolio app and website that our students and staff will use to document and record student learning, growth and collaboration. Student learning will be shared with students’ families via the Seesaw Family App. If you need help accessing Seesaw email the classroom teacher or see our technology team on the Back to School Night.
Back To School Night
We hope to see you all on the 28th of August for this event.
The purpose of the night is to allow you to meet your child’s teachers, view the classroom(s), and to obtain general program guidelines and standards.

All cultures have big stories like The Odyssey that students can read and think about big ideas. The more big stories they read the better!
