Elementary Update – December 13th

Sandy Sheppard, Elementary School Principal

Dear all,

Christmas time is here!! I’m sure you’re all very excited to be celebrating the festive season. I know you will agree that your children along with our wonderful teaching staff deserve a well-earned break – they have been superstars this year to date.

A particular highlight of the festive period was the winter concert along with our holiday assembly today and the annual teacher dance. A big thank you to our community for supporting all our events.

I wish everyone a wonderful holiday. I hope you all get to enjoy some relaxation and fun. Stay safe and we will see you in 2020.

Winter Concert

The winter concert was a wonderful collaboration between our culture studies and music teachers. The beautiful night celebrated Myanmar poetry.

Congratulations to all our performing students. Special thanks to Ms Bekka, Ms Su Lin and Saw John for all their hard work. Special recognition must be given to Ms Bekka for composing the music for the Myanmar poems.

Thank you to all those who supported the evening, we had a wonderful turn out from our community.

Sports-a-thon Fun

Thank you to all those who attended the sports-a-thon. The money raised was for our United World Schools project. Special mention to the fabulous swim team for all their efforts including the first syncronized swimming event. It was a fun morning for all.

Grade 3 Presentations

The students in Grade 3 shared their powerful stories with their parent’s on Thursday.

The stories were linked to the UN Sustainable Goals and were a result of a wonderful collaboration between the technology facilitators, art teachers and the Grade 3 team.

The students did a fantastic job and some excellent work was produced.

Well done everyone concerned.

Playground Fun

Our playground is being fully used every recess time and provides the students with many different avenues to explore creative fun, whether that be digging in the sandpit, creating in the mud kitchen, or climbing, jumping, skipping and playing football.

The new playground has been a hit with all. Allowing lots of room for physical play but also spaces for those students who want to have a quieter recess time.

We continue to add items to the playgrounds, this week in particular we have added water to the sandpit. As you will see from the pictures below this has been popular. The students had fun making different water ways in the sandpit.

Enjoy these pictures of all the fun that happens daily here in our ISY playgrounds.

Holiday Assembly

Today we had our annual holiday assembly.

At this assembly, we said our good byes to all our leaving students, we sang holiday songs and the teachers took part in the tradition of a teacher’s dance for the students.

Fun was had by all.

Santa Claus

Santa Claus visited classes today and gave all children a special holiday treat.

HOUR OF CODE

This week students have been involved in the Hour of Code, which is an international event. The pictures below are of Grade 4 students participating in coding activities.

Service Learning

How wonderful it is when our students take service to the next level by taking it into their home. Julia from Grade 3 decided to sell lemonade in front of her house with the proceeds going to the UWS project. Great work Julia!

Student Action

Cathrin in 5O wrote a very inspiring speech about trash and littering, to raise awareness. This was part of her action plan for her last social studies unit. She read it out to everyone at the assembly today.

Sometimes it is difficult to look on the bright side. But research shows that in difficult times, it is important for our mental health to allow ourselves to acknowledge that times are difficult and to feel rather than suppress negative emotions.
