ISY Service Learning
Let’s Celebrate Our Successes

Here we are, already in the second half of the school year. How time flies! I think this is a good time to reflect on ISY’s service learning program.
As you know, there are lots of service learning projects in which ISY students are involved – from Student Council to Community Kitchen to Green Initiative to the Chinthe Fund, and many more. In addition to being great fun, service learning has tremendous benefits for students. Students develop key transferable skills such as research, planning, teamwork, communication, and leadership. In addition, students learn more about real-world issues. For example, as part of their preparation for the Clinic Project, ISY students learn about vaccinations and explore issues surrounding access to healthcare. In this way, we are helping to develop compassionate global citizens.
On Saturday, 22nd February, the ISY community will come together at the annual Family Sports Day (9.00-11.00 am). This is a fundraising event for the Chinthe Fund. We will set up a variety of sporting activities for children (and adults) to enjoy. The Family Sports Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about our three Chinthe Fund partner organizations – Care to the Least Center, Kalitaw School, and Yangon Animal Shelter. We will set up an Information Station where students will be available to answer questions about these projects. I know that parents are very happy that their children are engaging in real-world issues beyond the classroom.
Here’s what some ISY students and teachers said about the Family Sports Day:
“Families can make new friends at this social event.” – William (grade 8)
“We can chill with our friends.” – Luke (grade 8)
“It’s a fun way to raise money for our partner organizations.” – Yoon (grade 8)
“Through Family Sports Day, we learn new ways to help the community.” – Eaindray (grade 9)
“Students learn important skills such as teamwork and communication.” – Claire (grade 10)
“It’s a great way to get some exercise.” – Mr Sebastian Paredes (secondary teacher)
“It’s nice to meet parents in a social setting.” – Ms Samia Khattab (elementary teacher)
Thank you for your support of service learning at ISY. We hope to see you at the Family Sports Day.
