Nourishing Lives: The Impact of the Community Kitchen

Do you believe that food can bring people together? Today, we are excited to shine a light on the Community Kitchen (CK). This incredible service learning group has been making a difference by spreading warmth and kindness through food. CK works with various organizations in Yangon to provide nutritious food to those in need. It helps to fill the gap for people struggling with food access. Last year, CK helped many people, and now they are planning to expand further.

“Our goal is to help those who have limited access to nutritious and hygienic food by organizing food donations and involving students in the process.” – Daw Yin Mon Aye (faculty supervisor)

One of CK’s exciting projects at the beginning of the year was to donate meals to patients at the Central Women’s Hospital. The goal was successfully reached on a recent trip. The group was able to provide balanced meals to over 300 patients at the hospital. Students not only learned about nutrition, but they also gained hands-on experience by volunteering at the hospital.

Here is what some students say about being in CK:

I love eating food, and spreading warmth by sharing nutritious meals definitely means a lot to me.” – Grace (grade 11)

Food is very important to me since it signifies home and happiness, and I think everyone deserves that.” – Hyebin (grade 10)

I think CK is a great project because it’s a way to combine your love for food with the desire to help others.” – Jack (grade 10)

CK has reached a heartwarming milestone throughout this beautiful journey.
