The first day of school this year is Tuesday, August 20.

All Secondary School students will meet in the Gym at 8:00am.

Student Schedules will be emailed to students and families on Monday, August 19.

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. We are very happy to have you with us.

The campus is looking great and our faculty and staff are ready to welcome our new and returning students.

As always, our compassionate Mission and Vision and supporting strategic themes will guide us in providing a world-class education for all of our students. 

This year, I am particularly energized and excited by a focus on our Belonging and Learning strategic themes.

At ISY, students thrive in a community that embraces their individuality. ISY raises awareness of diversity to create an inclusive environment for all. This year, we are starting a new Chinthe Communities program that will have students from different grade levels from right across the school to work and play together. Strengthening connections and relationships across the school will strengthen the sense of belonging that our students feel at ISY. This is important for many reasons, including student learning.

ISY embodies a student centered learning program that encourages adaptation and innovation to meet the challenges of the future. Over the summer break, our teachers have been learning about and researching different technologies and how they might be integrated into our curriculum and instructional practices. This is a very exciting time to be a teacher. Our faculty is very grateful that we have such an engaged and enthusiastic student body to develop innovative instructional practices to meet their learning needs now and in the future. 

This is my 7th year at ISY. ISY is a very special place for me and I feel very fortunate to be part of this community. I look forward to working with all of you this year.

Chinthe Expeditions This Year

As Dr. Hedger wrote in his End of Year Message to our community, last year was particularly productive. In his message, Dr. Hedger referred to the return to our Chinthe Expeditions as being a real highlight. These expeditions focused on internationalism, belonging, service, and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Chinthe Expeditions will run again this year. More details will follow later in the school year but we wanted to remind you of the planned dates and locations for each grade level’s expedition:

Sunday, December 1 to Friday, December 6, 2024

• Grade 12: Malacca, Malaysia.
• Grade 11: Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, Vietnam
• Grades 9 and 10: Chiang Mai, Thailand

Sunday, January 5* to Friday, January 10, 2025

• Grades 6, 7, and 8: Chiang Mai, Thailand.

*Please note that Sunday, January 5 is the Sunday before school starts back after the December holidays. This fits the direct flight schedule between Yangon and Chiang Mai.
