Secondary Principal’s Blog

August 19, 2022, Update

Christina Powers, Secondary School Principal

Welcome to the new school year. It is wonderful to have the campus filled with the energy and enthusiasm of our ISY students. At last, the ISY community is back together!  Through out this week, our ISY students has been building connections and becoming familiar with their classes and teachers. As an ISY community, we encourage you to contact the secondary office, if you have any questions or are in need of clarification. You can reach us at ISY, new phone number 09880441040 or secondaryoffice@isyedu.org

School Attendance:  Starting on Monday, if a parent has not notified the office of their child’s absence, we will be emailing parents letting them know that your child is not at school at the start of the school day and then at the end of the day. This email is simply to keep parents informed.  If a student arrives at school late, the child is to report to the office for a late slip. This will allow us to ensure attendance is accurately taken.

Back to School Night: Please mark your calendar. We look forward to having parents join us for Back to School Night on Thursday, September 8, 2022, starting at 5:30 PM. The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for parents to get to know their child’s teacher.

After-School Activities: Please check your email regarding after school activities. We encourage all students to participate in activities as it is a perfect way to meet new friends and learn new skills. In addition, it is an expectation that all students participate in a service learning activity sometime during the school year. The brochure with all the various activities can be found here.  You might want to review it over the weekend and be ready to make your selections when registration opens at 7 pm on Monday evening (22nd August).  ASA registration will occur on PowerSchool.

ISY Parent Association

On September 1st at 8:45 am in the Cafeteria we will be having a meeting to talk to parents about the ISY Parent Association.  The involvement of parents on the ISY campus plays a major role in the success of school events, teacher appreciation, and community building. The Parent Association is made up of a parent board to provide leadership and then a series of committees to lead parent involvement in a number of areas.  These include our International Day event and other events, a ‘connecting parents’ group, a group that awards Service learning Grants and a group for teacher appreciation at the end of the year.

First few days of school.
