Grade 10 IB Course Selection

Grade 10-course selection for IB is in progress. This past week students have heard from our IB coordinator, IB teachers, and our High School counselor. Ensuring that parents and students are well informed about course options and the impacts these options have on University application.

On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 6:30 PM ISY will be hosting an IB information evening for parents and grade 10 students. All grade 10 students and a guardian are required to attend, as IB course decisions will impact students for the next two school years. The zoom link for this evening will be sent in a follow-up email.

At the Parent information session, you will learn the following

      • General information about the IB
      • Couse decisions and impacts on Universities
      • Answer specific questions you may have.

Course requests deadline is March 4, 2022. Please reach out to MAmundson-Geisel@isyedu.org our high School counselor or Mr. Powers the IB coordinator at ibdp@isyedu.org if you have questions.

Middle School Movie Night

On March 3, 2022, at 3:45 the Middle School STUCO team will be hosted a movie night for our Middle School Students. The movie will take place while maintaining our social distancing guidelines. More information will be provided next week to middle school parents.

ISY Compassion Conference

There will be no in-person or online classes this Friday, March 4. On that day, our faculty will be attending our annual ISY Compassion Conference. This online conference is an opportunity for our faculty to reflect on our compassionate Mission and Vision and our definition of compassion:

The will and understanding to respect and value the identity, culture, perspective, and experience of others in acting to make a positive difference in their lives.

Over the course of the day, faculty will share in the experience and expertise of international presenters in a variety of topics that relate directly to our compassionate Mission and Vision and accompanying Strategic Themes of service-learning, technology integration, culture and diversity, and inclusion. Our faculty will then be able to apply this experience and expertise in meeting the needs of every student.

New Staff Update 2022-23

ISY is pleased to report that any staff members leaving at the end of this school year have already been replaced with new teachers who will be joining us in August.  It is a credit to the reputation and quality of ISY that we are able to attract such excellent teachers despite the challenges that Yangon faces at the moment.  This permits us to continue to maintain the same high standards ISY has always had.  This is also a reflection of the high caliber of students we have at ISY.  In addition, all of the IB teachers we have coming in are fully trained in the IB program and we look forward to the fresh ideas they bring.

Grade 12 Timeline

ISY will be applying for the non-examination route to obtain the IB diploma on March 1st for the class of 2022. It will take approximately one week for a response from the IB.  Once this information is obtained we will share the response with parents and students so that we can all plan accordingly.  Here is a link to the IB’s latest letter. Regardless of whether our students will take IB exams, please be aware of the following deadlines.

  • Mocks will take place March 21st-March 30th
  • The last date for IA’s or Orals to be submitted will be March 11, 2022, at Midnight MMT. This date will allow students a week to prepare and focus on the Mock exams.
  • A list of your child’s courses and the IA deadlines were emailed earlier this week. If IAs are not submitted at the specified deadline time the student and parents will be receiving an email letting them know the following:
    • Your IA was not submitted and not having an IA is a non-passing condition of the class. Therefore ISY will upload a previous IA draft as the final draft. If there has not been a previous draft, the student may not have met the passing conditions and will not obtain an IB diploma. – Art students are slightly different as the art show will take place after mocks.
    • In order to ensure there is no overlap between IA’s and Mocks and allow students time to study, some deadlines for IA and orals have been moved forward. These new deadlines have been emailed to students and parents.
  • Your final Day of required classes for seniors will be:
    • April 7th if we have IB exams (April 18-May 1 will be dedicated review time).
    • April 29, 2022, if we do not have IB exams.
  • Graduation: The date for graduation will be set based on whether we take the IB exams. Once this has been determined, we will look at scheduling graduation.
  • On March 11th we will have a graduation committee meeting for students interested to discuss what graduation this year may look like and what we need to do moving forward.

Measure of Academic Progress(MAP)

February 21- March 3rd Students in Grades 6-9 will be taking an online adaptive assessment in the area of Reading Math and Writing during their regularly scheduled English and Math classes. The information obtained on this assessment is only one data point that will be used to better understand a student’s strengths and weaknesses.
