Yangon Model United Nations

Last weekend, ISY hosted the Yangon Model United Nations (YMUN) Conference. This was a student-led conference that involved international schools in Yangon.
Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations where students represent different countries and engage in debates on global issues, working to craft resolutions.
In my time observing students engaged in Model United Nations conferences such as this one, it has become clear to me that a conference like YMUN is a lot more than a platform to debate global issues; it is an extraordinary opportunity to foster collaboration and compassion—values that are more important than ever in our interconnected world. Conferences such as these teach us to approach challenges with diplomacy, to value diverse perspectives, and to recognize that solutions to complex problems require collaboration and cooperation, not division.
They also teach us how to communicate with each other in order to approach these challenges and solve problems – with control, respect, and an awareness of who we are as individuals and how we can best advocate for ourselves and the interests that we represent, while contributing to something that is bigger than ourselves.
These conferences also remind us of the unique role that schools like ours play in shaping the global citizens of tomorrow. In our school, we make connections between what we are learning and how that applies to the world around us – how can we use what we learn to make the world a better place. That is our Mission and our Vision.

ISY Leading Child Safety in Yangon
ISY takes great pride in being a leader in the educational community when it comes to child safety, placing the well-being of our students at the forefront of our mission. Our child protection policy, in place since 2016 and updated annually, adheres to best practices and incorporates progressive strategies to ensure a safe learning environment. This comprehensive policy includes regular training for all employees, thorough background checks and reference screenings, a personal safety curriculum for students, clear reporting procedures, and a robust code of conduct. Each component of the policy is designed with a student-centered approach, reinforcing our unwavering commitment to child protection. This year, ISY is partnering with a respected child protection community leader to review and enhance our policy, further affirming our dedication to providing the highest standard of care and safeguarding for our students. The complete policy can be found here and on our website in both English and Myanmar.

Wear a Hat!
It is very hot and sunny now. It is important that we protect ourselves against the sun. When outside in the sun and especially during PE classes, students have been asked to wear a hat.
