Living our Mission

Secondary School Principal
January 24, 2025
Following on from Saturday’s very successful International Day, this week has been a very busy one that highlighted how our compassionate Mission is central to everything we do.
Throughout the week, students and teachers have learned from global citizenship and service learning expert, d’Arcy Lunn. d’Arcy’s message that all our choices, decisons, and actions have an impact on people (including ourselves) and the planet was very well receieved.
d’Arcy’s time with us culminated in a keynote address and workshops at Thursday’s Teachers Teaching Teacher conference. We hosted close to 300 international educators from Yangon in a conference that allowed teachers to share their ideas and learn from their peers. Students are the ultimate beneficiaries of teachers collaborating from learning from one another and we are proud to facilitate this as Yangon’s leading international school.
The week finished with a Lunar New Year Assembly. Thank you to all of the parents who helped organize this wonderful celebration and to our Parent Association for donating funds to this event. This was a fitting end to a week that focused on celebrating who we are as a school – a community of compassionate global citizens, lifelong learners, and agents for positive change.
A reminder that the school campus will be closed next week on Wednesday, January 29th, to observe the Chinese New Year.

ISY Leading Child Safety in Yangon
ISY takes great pride in being a leader in the educational community when it comes to child safety, placing the well-being of our students at the forefront of our mission. Our child protection policy, in place since 2016 and updated annually, adheres to best practices and incorporates progressive strategies to ensure a safe learning environment. This comprehensive policy includes regular training for all employees, thorough background checks and reference screenings, a personal safety curriculum for students, clear reporting procedures, and a robust code of conduct. Each component of the policy is designed with a student-centered approach, reinforcing our unwavering commitment to child protection. This year, ISY is partnering with a respected child protection community leader to review and enhance our policy, further affirming our dedication to providing the highest standard of care and safeguarding for our students. The complete policy can be found here and on our website in both English and Myanmar.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please contact the ISY counselors, Patty Amundson-Geisel at escounselor@isyedu.org or Mick Amundson-Geisel at mamundson@isyedu.org.
Wear a Hat!
It is very hot and sunny now. It is important that we protect ourselves against the sun. When outside in the sun and especially during PE classes, students have been asked to wear a hat.
