January 27, 2023

It has been another busy week with parent evenings on Wednesday and Thursday, Grade 11 Mock exams underway and our sports teams preparing to travel to their SEASAC tournaments. Today, a special Lunar New Year assembly saw the return of the lion dance!

On Wednesday, I was fortunate to visit Kalihtaw School with three ISY students who represent ISY’s Access to Education Service Learning Group. This group is committed to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all as per UN Sustainable Development Goal 4. The upcoming ISY Family Fun Fair will be a chance to support and learn more about how our Access to Education students and all of our other ISY Service Learning Groups are striving to be a force for positive change.

Semester 1 Report Cards

Semester 1 Student Reports Cards are now accessible on Powerschool.

Instructions on how to access reports  have been emailed to you from the Secondary School Office. Please email secondaryoffice@isyedu.org if you did not receive the email or have any questions about the instructions.

The ISY Family Fun Fair is back! This event is organized by our Student Council and our Student Service Learning Groups.

As in the past, there will be lots of fun things to do including rides for the children and fun activities organized by our Student Service Learning Groups. There will also be a wide selection of food stalls and vendors who align with ISY’s strategic themes and commitment to environmental consciousness.

As you are having fun, you will learn all about our ISY students’ service learning initiatives and how you can help them be a force for positive change in the world. You will also be raising money for these service learning initiatives so they can continue their great work and our ISY community can continue to support our partner projects.

Second Hand Market – Please donate!

At the Family Fun Fair, a Second Hand Market will sell second hand clothing (all ages), books (all ages), and toys. All proceeds from the Second Hand Market will go to the ‘Chinthe Fund’ that supports our ISY Partner Projects (including Yangon Animal Shelter and Care to the Least Center Orphanage). And any items not sold will be donated to our ISY Partner Projects.

We would like to collect as many items as we can to sell at the Second Hand Market. Please donate gently used clothing, books, or toys to this great cause. You can make donations on the Front Steps. From this Monday, January 30 there will be baskets on the Front Steps to donate your clothing, books, and toys.

Child Safeguarding at ISY

On Wednesday, our counselors hosted a parent evening to review ISY’s policy on safeguarding children and explore how students use a popular application, Discord, to stay in touch with one another.  Ideas were shared about how to keep students safe when using internet applications.

As part of Wednesday’s presentation, the following useful links were shared as resources for parents to better understand Discord:

Access to Education

Yesterday, Dr. Hedger, the Principals, some members of faculty and some students all visited a school near the Kalihtaw Dam north of Yangon. They got to meet some of the students there and engage with them as well as see the facilities of the school. This is all part of the Access to Education Service Learning program at ISY.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Today we celebrated the Lunar New Year with a special assembly complete with dumplings, red envelopes and a magnificent lion dance. Thank you to our Mandarin teachers and Parent Association for organizing this special event.

Art and the ISY Learner Attributes

Our High School Art students created artwork to depict a well known figure and connected it to the ISY Learner Attributes (Compassion, Communication, Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Courage, and Reflection) that they represent.
