SEASAC Success

March 24, 2023

Our SEASAC badminton, softball and football sporting teams again did us proud during their recent successful regional competitions.

Success can be measured in many different ways. Sometimes a team can win a game with a poor performance and sometimes lose a game with a good performance. In these cases, the scoreboard might not reflect how successful a team has really been. Sport is played to win but sometimes it is more reliable to measure success in different terms.

Our boys softball won their last two playoff games and defeated a team that defeated them at the beginning of the tournament. In their last playoff game, our boys badminton team also bet a team that they had earlier lost to. Both of these wins were undoubted successes as they were results of improved performances. Our girls badminton team reached the final of their tournament and our boys softball team took home the sportsmanship award. Our boys football team fought hard to be competitive against academy teams which included national representatives.

Success in sport can be measured in terms of improved performances, wins, sportsmanship, and competing. Our ISY teams provided us with examples of all of these over a very successful weekend. You can read more about this in Mr. O’Sullivan’s Athletics & Activity Blog.

As we mentioned last week, our Model United Nations (MUN) students are hosting other Yangon and Mandalay internationals schools in the first in-person Yangon MUN conference since the pandemic. The conference starts this afternoon and finishes on Sunday afternoon and you are welcome to come and watch the students in action.

We are also hosting this afternoon’s Yangon Athletic Conference High School Basketball Finals. Good luck to our High School basketball teams who are in action.

It is great to have so much happening on campus!

Earth Hour

Could an hour change the world? On 25th March 2023 at 8:30 PM, you are encouraged to do something – anything – positive for our planet.  This is one small spark for change. An hour reminding us to make all other hours count.

Earth hour began in 2007; it has also been known as the ‘lights off’ movement, with individuals from around the globe switching off their lights to show symbolic support for the planet and to raise awareness of the environmental issues affecting it.

Here at ISY, being environmentally conscious is very important to us. Could an hour change the world? It’s a start, and it’s up to us.

Watch this video and explore ways you can give an hour here.

We would love to hear how your family is participating in Earth Hour – go to this link to a Padlet and let us know what you did. It is easy to use, and you can also add photos. Just click on the green button on the bottom right of the screen.
